Many people think relaxation is simply about resting. In reality, it's so much more than that.
When you relax, your body shifts into a calmer state. Your parasympathetic nervous system, the part responsible for rest, recovery, and regeneration becomes more active. Your heart rate slows down, your breathing becomes deeper, muscle tension decreases, and your stress hormone levels begin to drop. Your body finally receives the message: you are safe; there's no need to stay on high alert.
As your body relaxes, your mind gradually becomes quieter too. The constant stream of thoughts begins to settle, making it easier to reconnect with yourself. My relaxation sessions also include positive, empowering messages that gently support the process of replacing limiting thought patterns with healthier, more supportive ones while you're in this deeply relaxed state.
Many people describe the experience as if both their body and soul can finally rest. A sense of inner calm emerges, making it easier to think clearly, make good decisions, and simply be present in the moment. It's not that your problems disappear, it’s that you can see them from a calmer, more balanced perspective.
Relaxation is a skill, just like any other, and it becomes stronger with practice.
That's why consistency matters more than duration. Five or ten minutes a day is far more effective than a single hour once a month. With regular practice, your nervous system gradually learns how to return to a calm, balanced state more easily.
During the first few days, it's helpful to practice every day so your body and mind can become familiar with this new experience. Over time, you'll naturally discover what works best for you. Some people enjoy relaxing every day, while others find that a few sessions each week are enough.
What if you can't fully relax at first?
That's completely normal.
There's no right or wrong way to do it, and you don't have to switch off your thoughts immediately. Simply sitting or lying down and listening to a few minutes of the relaxation is already a wonderful start. If five minutes is all you manage at first, that's perfectly okay.
It's also worth experimenting with different times of day to see what suits you best: morning, during the day, or before bedtime.
You can practice relaxation either sitting or lying down. The most important thing is to choose a position that feels comfortable. If you learn to relax while sitting, you'll eventually be able to calm yourself almost anywhere in just a few minutes.
