TO***CO AND CANCER: UNDERSTANDING THE LINK

To***co is one of the leading causes of preventable cancer and death worldwide.
To***co contains harmful chemicals that damage the body over time.

To***co smoke contains thousands of chemicals, including many cancer-causing substances (carcinogens). These chemicals damage the DNA in our cells, causing abnormal cell growth that can develop into cancer.

To***co is strongly linked to cancers of the:Lungs, Mouth, Throat, Voice box (larynx) Esophagus, Pancreas, Kidney, Bladder, Cervix, Stomach etc

Even people who do not smoke can be harmed through secondhand smoke.

Warning Signs to Watch For
Persistent cough
Coughing blood
Hoarseness of voice
Difficulty swallowing
Unexplained weight loss
Non-healing mouth sores

The Good News

Quitting to***co at any age improves health and lowers cancer risk. The body begins to heal soon after stopping smoking.

Prevention Tips
✔️ Avoid smoking and to***co products
✔️ Stay away from secondhand smoke
✔️ Encourage young people not to start smoking
✔️ Seek medical help or counseling if trying to quit

Every cigarette avoided is a step toward better health. Protect yourself and your loved ones by saying NO to to***co.

Did you know exercise is actually "Internal Medicine"? 🏃‍♀️💊

It’s not just about losing weight or looking good. When you move your body, you are changing your internal chemistry to be a "No-Go Zone" for cancer!
Here is how physical activity protects you:

✅ Starves the Fuel: It reduces excess fat that otherwise pumps out hormones that "feed" tumors.

✅ Balances Hormones: It keeps insulin and estrogen levels in check, slowing down risky cell division.

✅ Puts out the Fire: It lowers chronic inflammation that damages your DNA.

✅ Trains your Guards: It boosts your immune system so it can find and destroy "bad" cells faster.

The Goal: Aim for 30 minutes of brisk walking, 5 days a week. Your body is designed to move—let’s keep it healthy!

Healthy lifestyle and cancer prevention. What you need to know.

Healthy lifestyle changes play an important role in reducing cancer risk. This could be through modifiable behaviors like diet, exercise, avoiding to***co etc. When these habits are adopted early and consistently they significantly lower the chances of developing common cancers like breast, colon and others.

KEY PREVENTION STRATEGIES

Maintain a healthy weight (BMI of 18.5 to 24.9)

Eat plant based diets like fruits, grains, vegetables etc which provide fiber and antioxidants. Avoid red and processed meats, sugary drinks and others

Stay physically active. Regular exercise 150minutes (walking) or 75minutes (walking) per week is recommended

Avoid to***co. Smoking causes about 30% of cancers and so quitting is a better option

Limit Alcohol. No level is completely safe but women can take 1 drink/day and men 2drinks/day. Alcohol increases risk of breas,t liver, and esophageal cancers

Protect skin from sun using sunscreen, protective dresses, and staying indoors from 10am-4pm

Regular screening, vaccination, limiting exposure to carcinogens etc will also limit the risk of cancers.

Health awareness saves lives.

🚨 Avoiding Delays: Why Self-Medication Can Be Dangerous for Children 🚨

As parents and caregivers, we all want quick relief when our children fall sick. But giving medications without proper medical advice can do more harm than good.

❗ Here’s why self-medication is risky:

Wrong diagnosis: Not every fever or pain is minor. You may miss a serious condition.

Incorrect dosage: Children are not small adults. Too much or too little medicine can be harmful.

Delayed treatment: Treating symptoms at home may hide the real problem and delay proper care.

Drug reactions: Some medicines can cause unexpected side effects or interact badly with others.

⏳ Time matters—especially in children’s health. What seems small today can become serious tomorrow if not properly checked.

✅ What you should do:
Seek medical advice early

Follow prescribed treatments only
Observe and report all symptoms clearly

💡 Remember: Early and correct care can save lives. Don’t guess—get help.

🛡️ Protecting Your Child’s Health: Nutrition and Immunity Basics

When it comes to our children, every parent wants one thing, to see them grow healthy and strong. Nutrition and immunity play a key role in this journey, especially when we talk about childhood cancer awareness.

It is important to understand this clearly:
💡 Good nutrition does not prevent all childhood cancers.
But it helps build a child’s strength, supports the immune system, and improves the body’s ability to cope with illness and treatment.

Here are simple ways to protect your child’s health:

🥗 1. Give balanced meals
Include fruits, vegetables, proteins (beans, eggs, fish, meat), and whole grains. These help the body grow and stay strong.

🍊 2. Support immunity naturally
Healthy foods provide vitamins that help the body fight infections.

💧 3. Encourage regular hydration
Clean water is essential for good health and body function.

🍭 4. Reduce too much sugar and processed foods
Excess sugar can weaken the body over time.

😴 5. Promote healthy habits
Good sleep, physical activity, and hygiene (like handwashing) are very important.

⚠️ 6. Stay alert to warning signs
Persistent fever, unusual swelling, unexplained weight loss, or constant tiredness should not be ignored.

🚨 7. Early diagnosis saves lives
While nutrition supports health, seeking medical care early when something is not right can make a life-saving difference.

💛 Final message:
Protecting your child’s health is a combination of good nutrition, strong immunity, and early action.

⏰💛 Early Diagnosis Saves Lives: Why Timing Matters in Childhood Cancer 👶🏽

When it comes to childhood cancer, time is not just important—it can be life-saving.

Many childhood cancers grow quickly, but the good news is that they also respond well to treatment when detected early. The difference between early and late diagnosis can mean the difference between a child getting better or facing more serious complications.

💡 Why Does Early Diagnosis Matter?

🔸 Children diagnosed early have a much higher chance of successful treatment and recovery.
🔸 When cancer is found early, treatment may be less aggressive, with fewer side effects.
🔸 Late diagnosis can allow the disease to spread, making treatment more difficult.
🔸Early care can reduce prolonged hospital stays and stress on families.

⚠️ In many communities, diagnosis is delayed because:

Symptoms are mistaken for common illnesses
Financial challenges delay hospital visits
Limited access to healthcare services
Lack of awareness about warning signs

👀 What Should Parents Watch For?
Persistent fever
Unusual tiredness
Unexplained weight loss
Swelling or lumps
Bone pain or frequent crying in young children

👉 These signs do not always mean cancer but if they persist, seek medical attention early.

❤️ As parents and caregivers, your awareness can save a life. Trust your instincts. If something doesn’t feel right, don’t wait.
Early diagnosis is not just medical it is a chance, a hope, and a future for a child. 💛
