Globally the demand for green jobs is accelerating faster than the work force can keep up. Green hiring has grown overwhelmingly compared to the supply of green skilled workers. Despite the unemployment situation in Africa where over one million young Africans enter the labour market every month, this mismatch is acute. With this significant number of green jobs entering the market and the forecasted future numbers, especially in the Agriculture and nature-based sectors (alone are expected to generate over 700000 jobs by 2030 )where Africa has a natural comparative advantage , governments needs to act accordingly in order to exploit this opportunity. So far, youths are largely sidelined, not only from training pathways but from the policy conversations that shape them.

Given this situation, UNEP through the 10YFP secretariat in collaboration with UNICEF and ILO is implementing The UNDA funded project “strengthening policies and capacities for green for youths in Africa and the Caribbean : 🇨🇺Cuba Senegal 🇸🇳 and Madagascar 🇲🇬 . On this light an online webinar is scheduled on the 23 June with the theme : Building green skills for Africa’s youth- Pathway to a nature- positive and sustainable future “ .
