六一儿童节!
In China, Children's Day is celebrated on the 1st of June each year. There are celebrations in schools, and children get special treats and gifts from parents and teachers. The children at Sozo got yummy cupcakes after classes, though... oops... unfortunately some of those cakes ended up on the floor!

Children are sometimes seen as projects... and at other times as burdens... but today, we want to remember and see the children around us as GIFTS! Gifts of life and hope; of love and beauty. Let's celebrate them as such today! 🥳🤹‍♀️🤩

Autistic children often have problems with processing and integrating sensory information. This may affect not only their physical growth and development but also their ability to learn and socialize.

We all have 5 sensory systems in our bodies that help us to learn about and interact in our world. One of them is our sense of touch. Some autistic children may be over-sensitive to touch and avoid certain sensations; others may continuously be seeking out particular sensations.

Our staff created this sensory wall out of different kinds of materials. As the children walk by they are attracted by the different colours and shapes. As they explore, they also then discover different textures. Big hand to our staff for coming up with this creative idea! The wall brightens up the centre and the lives of the children!

Boys will be boys! Almost all the boys in our centre love playing with cars. We're so thankful to friends who gifted us with this "Felt City" created and sold by Home Sweet Home (https://www.facebook.com/HSHshanghai/). Do support them too as they work to "equip those with special needs to fulfil their potential in the community".

The doctor is in! Imaginative play is great for kids. It helps them develop creativity, problem solving, social skills and more. These two kiddos had great fun playing doctor-patient. The patient was a little uncooperative though!

This is Sozo Children's Centre. Sozo (a Greek word) means saved, healed, delivered, set free! At Sozo, our team desires to walk with the children and their parents from despair to hope, darkness to light, limitations to freedom!

A big thank you to all our supporters for walking with us every step of the way. Having you cheer us on gives us inspiration and strength for the journey! 💪🌈🛤

When you have a neurotypical child, you feel reasonably assured that class participation and decent study habits will result in good grades. These kids have close friends. They get invited to participate in social things like birthdays, play dates and weekend gatherings. They make the teams, auditions and are always busy doing something fun with their friends.
But when you have a child with certain differences, this is often not the case. Learning may take longer, both academically and socially. Despite their tremendous efforts, results are often a fraction of their peers and social acceptance is fleeting, setting them up for painful comparisons and bitter frustration. Instead of a fun and fulfilling experience, school can become a breeding ground for depression and anxiety, and homework a battle ground at home. It is exhausting for parents and child alike.
This is the week of SPED (Special Education), Autism, Dyslexia, and ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) awareness. For all the children who struggle every day to succeed in a world that does not recognize their gifts and talents, and for those who are walking beside them, please let this be a gentle reminder to be kind and accepting of ALL people.
Recognize that the "playing field" is not always a level surface.
Children who learn differently are not weird. They are merely gifted in ways that our society does not value enough. Yet they want what everyone else wants: To be accepted.
Please help me share awareness of this. Copy and paste (by touching and holding the text) onto your profile in honor of all children who are deemed "different". Our world would be far less beautiful without them.

It's been a cold cold day! But that didn't stop our therapists from having a fun and fruitful time in training, honing their skills. Thankful for every training opportunity so that we may serve the children better.
