⚠️ Mooring Line Safety: The Risks Nobody Talks About Until It's Too Late
Every year, mooring line failures cause serious injuries, vessel damage, and costly port incidents worldwide. And yet, many of these accidents are 100% preventable.

Here are 5 critical mooring safety rules that every deck officer, line handler, and terminal operator should know:

🔴 1 — Respect the Snap-Back Zone A parted mooring line can recoil at lethal speed. The snap-back danger zone extends several meters in both directions. Never stand in line with a tensioned rope — ever.

🔴 2 — Never Overload a Single Line Spreading the load across multiple lines is not just best practice — it's physics. Concentrating stress on one rope dramatically increases failure risk, especially during swell or surge conditions.

🔴 3 — Match the Line to the Vessel Using undersized or mismatched ropes for the vessel's displacement and expected environmental loads is a recipe for disaster. Always verify MBL (Minimum Breaking Load) requirements before deployment.

🔴 4 — Watch for Line Surge on Bitts & Bollards Improper figure-of-eight arrangements on bitts or overloaded bollards can cause sudden line surge. Ensure correct leads and sufficient turns at all times.

🔴 5 — Communication is a Safety Tool Miscommunication between the vessel's deck team and the shore gang is a leading cause of mooring incidents. Clear signals, confirmed commands, and no assumptions — every time.
