Every Sunday Sanctuary yoga class, we begin by taking a few minutes to introduce ourselves, share our pronouns, and anything we are feeling, or may want to share that day. This is in an effort to create a sense of community, and a safe, all inclusive space.
•
Why do we ask people to share their pronouns?
•
The concept of gender is evolving, and therefore so are gender identities. No matter your gender identity, gender can be very important to someone’s sense of self. Pronouns are important because by using a person’s pronouns correctly, you are showing them respect and forming an inclusive environment.
•
At One Love Yoga Club, this is the intent and mission. To have an all inclusive and welcoming space. With this, comes respect of the space, and those who are a part of it.
•
You can’t always know what someones pronouns are by looking at them. People may change their pronouns without changing their name, appearance, or gender identity. Asking and correctly using someone’s pronouns is a simple and basic way to show your respect for their gender identity. Asking for pronouns can help prevent emotional distress and set an example of respect.
•
Using the wrong pronouns can be offensive or even harmful. Ignoring a person’s pronouns can also imply that people who are under the transgender umbrella — transgender, non-binary, or gender non-conforming — do not exist.
•
Please join One Love Yoga Club in creating a safe and all-inclusive environment. We will always continue to learn, grow, open our hearts, on and off our mats.
•
Happy Pride y’all, from our heart to yours- namaste ❤️🌈☀️
