On 28 June 2026, Mohanji Acharya Yastheel had the honour of representing both Mohanji Foundation South Africa and the Himalayan School of Traditional Yoga at the International Yoga Day Celebration, hosted by Gayathri Peedam South Africa.
The event held special significance as it commemorated 30 years of dedicated service by Gayathri Peedam South Africa in promoting spirituality, culture, and community well-being.
The celebration brought together various yoga schools and spiritual organisations in a shared expression of yogaโs timeless wisdom. Throughout the morning, attendees experienced a rich and diverse programme featuring yoga demonstrations, traditional dance performances, and insightful spiritual talks, all highlighting that yoga is far more than physical postures, it is a path towards inner transformation, self-awareness, and unity.
Representing the Himalayan School of Traditional Yoga, Yastheel presented a traditional yoga demonstration centred on the principles of balance, strength, stability, and conscious connection.
The event also showcased a variety of yoga traditions, including Laughter Yoga, Chair Yoga for professionals, and other contemporary and traditional approaches, demonstrating the inclusiveness and universality of yoga.
Participants were further inspired by profound discourses from His Holiness Swami Shankarananda Maharaji, the Guest of Honour, and Swami Mohana Bhaktananda Bharati, who eloquently spoke on the true essence of yoga as a means of cultivating inner connection, harmony, and expanded consciousness.
The celebration served as a powerful reminder that while yoga may be expressed through many different styles and practices, its ultimate purpose remains the same: the union of body, mind, and consciousness, leading to a life of balance, compassion, and self-realisation.
