Tomorrow is World Su***de Prevention Day.
In 2024, 10,372 people died by su***de in Germany. That is more than 28 people every day.
And yet, su***de is still something we often struggle to talk about.
One important thing to know: asking someone directly about suicidal thoughts does not increase their risk of su***de. Talking openly can create space for someone to share what they are going through and help them access support.
You don’t need to have the perfect words.
You can ask directly:
“Are you thinking about su***de?”
Listen without judgement. Take them seriously. Stay with them. Help them find professional support.
Suicidal crises can be overcome. Help is available.
