Earlier today, the Dominica Hospitals Authority held a Eucharistic celebration for the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, led by His Lordship Bishop Kendrick Forbes and members of the clergy.

The Mass was offered with special intentions for patients and staff. Following the service, Bishop Forbes and the clergy visited the various wards to offer prayers for healing for the sick.

We thank His Lordship Bishop Kendrick Forbes, Monsignor Thomas, and the rest of the clergy for bringing this first of many services to the hospital to pray for and support our healthcare workers and patients.

Neurosurgeon, Dr. Julio Conde Iglesias and his team have once again made history in Dominica with another first.

Earlier this year, Dr. Conde successfully performed Dominica’s first spinal surgery. A few months later, he led a team that carried out brain surgery for the successful removal of a malignant tumor located near the speech area.

The surgery was performed on 26 May 2026. The patient spent two days in the ICU for postoperative care and was discharged on 5 June 2026. The procedure lasted approximately six hours.

We express our sincere gratitude to Dr. Conde and his team for their hard work, expertise, and commitment to delivering quality healthcare in Dominica. We also wish the patient continued recovery and good health.

Over the next two weeks, Medical Ministry International (MMI) will perform over 80 cataract surgeries for pre-selected patients at the Brenda Strafford Foundation Eye Centre at the Dominica China Friendship Hospital.

A cataract is the clouding of the eye's natural lens, causing blurred vision and, if left untreated, vision loss. Cataract surgery helps restore clear vision, improving patients' independence and quality of life.

The Dominica Hospitals Authority is grateful for MMI and its team continued commitment to the people of Dominica. Their dedication continues to make a meaningful difference by restoring sight and bringing renewed hope to many individuals and families.

Today, the Dominica Hospitals Authority welcomed third-form students from Dominica Grammar School for Career Day, focusing on careers in healthcare. The students had the opportunity to engage with and learn from managers, including the CEO, during the first part of their visit.

They then had a guided tour of various areas within the hospital. The experience left the students feeling inspired and thoughtful, especially as they now recognize the diverse range of career paths available within the health sector.

The audiology pop-up clinic held earlier today was a great success! The general public attended in large numbers to have their hearing tested.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Therapy Abroad Inc. for visiting Dominica and to the Montclair State University group for partnering with them. This collaboration marks the beginning of an ongoing partnership, as they have promised to return.

Hearing loss is a significant and potentially modifiable risk factor for dementia. Early hearing testing is crucial for timely diagnosis and intervention.

Stay tuned to our page for updates on more clinics and similar opportunities.
