I SAW PEOPLE SHARING THESE SCREENSHOTS, SO I CHECKED IT MYSELF.
And, honestly, the results were strange.
I searched “am alone with a Muslim” and Google’s AI Overview immediately responded with a warning to “reach out to local emergency services.”
Then I searched the equivalent question with “an Israeli”, and the response was completely different, saying that being alone with an Israeli is simply like being with anyone else.
Why the difference?
Is this a bug?
Is it a problem with the underlying data?
Is the AI interpreting the two queries differently?
Or is there something deeper going on?
I’m not going to claim I know the answer without evidence.
But when an AI system gives dramatically different safety framing to two nearly identical questions based only on the identity being mentioned, that deserves scrutiny.
Google says AI Overviews can make mistakes and specifically asks users to report responses that are inaccurate, biased or problematic.
So here’s the question:
WHY DID GOOGLE’S AI RESPOND THIS WAY, AND WILL GOOGLE FIX IT?
I want an explanation, not excuses.
