" B lactams"
Are time dependent antibiotics
So prolonged infusions attain the pharmacodynamic efficacy target more than shorter infusions especially in critically ill patients as sepsis.

Prolonged infusion for iv b lactams include a continuous infusion(over the entire dosing interval) and an extended infusion(over 2 to 4 hours) as opposed to traditional,intermittent infusion(over 30 to 60 min.).

Antibiotics must be stable over a prolonged infusion time.

Ex. 1- Meropenem extended infusion over 3 hrs,
Continuous infusion over 8-12hrs

2- Ceftazidime extended infusion over 3-4 h
