The new proposed Canadian Cannabis laws would impose a MAXIMUM SENTENCE OF 14 YEARS on whoever distributes, propagates, or grows seed or clones that are not from a gvt-recognized Licensed Producer. In other words, you will be able to grow four plants, but you WON'T BE ABLE TO USE OR SAVE YOUR OWN SEED!! And seed shops would be a thing of the past.

My question is, WHO IS THE VICTIM in this crime, treated on par with murder and r**e?

Nobody. It's a victimless crime. This stinks to high heaven of corporate cronyism.

I consider that it is a FUNDAMENTAL HUMAN RIGHT from time immemorial, to grow your own food and medicine and save our own seed. The ONLY PURPOSE of this here legislation is to empower corporations at the expense of individual subsistence farmers and keep them dependent and subservient. This legislation is on par with what Monsanto is trying to do with their Terminator gene technology. Same deal here, except it's government-sanctioned! in CANADA!!

It make absolutely no sense to me, why wouldn't Canada take advantage of the many underground breeders who have created WONDERFUL STRAINS over the years - Canada is has some of the best genetics in the world - we all know that know that. So why can't we bring them into this new "brave new world" of so-called legal cannabis? it would benefit the industry as a whole. Instead, this new legislation would bring on our demise, a mass extinction of cannabis strains and a further criminalization of cannabis seed breeders and sellers.

Something I find particularly ironic is the requirement to keep plants under 1 m (3 ft). My own claim to fame: I am actually known for having developed autoflowering plants like Lowryder (tm) that do just that - true dwarf plants. So you think this works in my favor?? Nope. My seed will NOT BE LEGAL to use, as my breeds were developed in the past when there was no legal framework for seed. And anyone who does use them, would face serious jailtime. All for the sake of lining sharegolders' pockets. How fu**ed up is that. This is not the legalization i was hoping for. We can NOT let this happen!!

Regulators: If you want the Cannabis business to truly flourish, you have to de-regulate seed. Seed contains no THC. Can you imagine if poppy seeds were subject to this kind of draconian approach because they can be used to produce o***m? we just wouldnt have poppy seed bagels. Or if yeast was outlawed, just so we couldnt make our own alcohol. It makes no sense. Seed is de-regulated in most of Europe. Will I be forced to move there??

Almost everywhere in Europe, cannabis seeds, unlike the plant and its dried parts, have never been banned. They do not contain THC and some brands of h**p seeds are also registered as a legitimate source of nutrition by EU-wide marketing authorization.
