I thought eating last made me a good mom.
Seriously, I wore it like a badge. Everyone else got real food and I got whatever was left. By 5 PM my mental bandwidth was somewhere around negative 500, and bedtime, the one part of the day my kids had me all to themselves- they got the worst of me.
I was never a bad mom. I was an underfed one. If that’s you tonight, here are the details I promised.
1- 30 grams of protein in the morning.
In one study, women who ate a 35 gram protein breakfast had lower ghrelin (the hormone that makes you hungry) and higher PYY (the one that tells your brain you’re full) across the whole day, and they snacked less at night. For me 30 grams is 3 protein balls, or 2 and a glass of protein milk.
2- Food before caffeine.
University of Bath researchers found that strong coffee before breakfast raised people’s blood sugar response to that breakfast by about 50%. For me, a bigger spike meant a bigger drop. And in a study of 107 married couples, the lower their blood sugar was in the evening, the angrier they felt toward their spouse. So I eat first.
3- Make it so easy you’d do it half asleep.
I prep a week of breakfasts in 5 minutes on Sunday. It’s one less decision, it tastes like a treat, and I never skip.
You don’t need one more thing to do. You need someone to finally tell you why. Comment “CALM” and I’ll send my free 60-second Chemical Audit to disciover why bedtime falls apart for you, and the one step I’d start with. One step one answer and bedtime gets to be the calm part of your day again (make sure you are following )
