🧠 New review by Federico Miozzo, from A. Barco lab at the Instituto de Neurociencias CSIC - UMH, published in The Neuroscientist.
The review examines the role of non-clustered protocadherins (ncPCDHs) in brain development, synaptic function and plasticity, and their link to autism spectrum disorder (ASD), bringing together evidence from human genetics and rodent models.
It also discusses emerging activity-dependent mechanisms involving ncPCDHs, including recent work by Miozzo and colleagues identifying PCDH9 as a novel synaptonuclear messenger. Upon neuronal activation, PCDH9 is cleaved and generates a fragment that enters the nucleus to regulate neuronal morphology and function.
