I get nunu of the day award 😅

I arrived at Amsterdam Centraal with the calm confidence of someone who had everything under control.

Ticket checked. Bags sorted. Timing perfect.

Except my train was not leaving from Centraal at all. It was leaving from Schiphol Airport, the very station I had passed through thirty minutes earlier without a second thought.

There is a particular kind of panic that arrives when you realise your certainty was built on assumption rather than attention. I had read the ticket once. Then twice. Then three times over the weekend. Yet my brain only saw what it expected to see. I arrived at Centraal so that’s where I expected to leave from.

Amsterdam. Train. Paris. Done.

And yet there it was, in the almost final moment. Amsterdam Schiphol.

By some combination of fast trains and mild adrenaline, I made it.

What else am I not truly seeing because I have already decided what to expect?

Confirmation bias is a psychological term. But sometimes it simply looks like standing, confidently, in the wrong station.

Thankfully, life occasionally gives us a second train. 😮‍💨 😅

I snapped at my mother.

One word. Wrong tone.

The look on her face was devastating.

She forgot it by the next morning.
I carried it for two days.

What we suppress, we eventually express. Just rarely where we intended to.

Still carrying it the next day, I put my headphones on, hand on my chest, and sat with a Joe Dispenza meditation on the train.

A train is not a private place. I did not expect what came through.

But the emotion moved. Quietly. Completely.

What arrived on the other side was knowing. I needed to take my mother to the aquarium.

We are wired to feel. Emotions are not weaknesses. They are information.

You do not need a perfect setting. You need a willing one.

If guided support would help, find “Love your body” on the Joe Dispenza website.

Last night I took my first dose of HRT.
It took years of unlearning to get here.

Because like many women of my generation, I was taught to fear it. That fear was built on research from the early 2000s that has since been heavily re-evaluated.

But the damage was done.

An entire generation of women left wary of a treatment that, for many, can dramatically improve quality of life.

Here is what that damage looks like in numbers.

Menopause affects every woman who lives long enough. Roughly half the global population.
Only 5–10% of menopausal women are currently using HRT.
Women’s health receives around 2–5% of healthcare research funding.
And in some medical schools, menopause gets just a few hours of formal education.

Half the population. A major biological transition. Almost invisible in the research.

No wonder so many women feel dismissed when they ask for help.

This is not just a health issue. It is a structural one.

Last night two close friends were online with me when I took that first dose. Not because I was frightened. Because I wanted to mark it. Women witnessing women.

We need more of that.

More open conversation. More honest information. Less silence and less shame.

To every woman navigating this right now: I see you. And I suspect many of us are only just beginning to reclaim what should have been ours all along.

When did you last really look at yourself?
Not a glance in passing. Not checking your hair or your lines. Actually looking.

I gave myself private space to reconnect with something bigger today. Phone off.

I found some ancestral music, the kind you feel more than hear, and I sat close to the mirror. Closer than comfortable.
Eye contact. With myself.

It felt strange at first. Then the tears came. Not polite ones. The shoulder-shaking kind. The kind that have been waiting.
I saw myself. And somewhere behind my own eyes, I saw the women who came before me. Generations of them, quietly shrinking to fit.
I didn’t look away.

I stayed until something shifted. Until the grief moved through and something warmer came in. I looked at the woman in that mirror and felt, genuinely, proud of her.

We live in a culture that frames ageing as decline, especially for women. That tells us to smooth and correct and reduce. It is relentless.

But when I actually looked, I didn’t see defects. I saw someone shaped by experience. Depth. Resilience. A face that has been through things and is still here.

The five-year-old version of me would not be disappointed.

Afterwards, I felt the urge to build a small altar. Candles. A few objects that mean something to me. I sat with it quietly for a while. Prayed, in my own way, for the people I love and for this complicated, beautiful world.

More tears. More love. It felt like the right thing to do.

This isn’t ritual for the sake of it. It’s simpler than that. It’s about giving your nervous system a moment of stillness. Letting your body feel what it has been holding.

Remembering that you are more than the version of yourself you perform for the world.

Most of us are so rarely alone with ourselves. Really alone. Quiet enough to notice what’s there.

We need more altars.
More mirrors, not for checking or for makeup, but for meeting yourself.

If you’re standing in front of a mirror soon, try staying a little longer than usual.

You might be surprised by who you find.
