Most people think inversions are about strength.
They’re not.
They’re about learning to orient yourself when everything feels unfamiliar.
When we turn upside down, we temporarily lose our usual points of reference. Right becomes left. Forward becomes backward. The body has to learn a new map.
This is why I love exploring different leg positions, shapes, and transitions in inversions. Not to make the pose look more impressive, but to develop spatial awareness, proprioception, and confidence.
At first, most of us need someone to guide us. A hand on the hips. A gentle cue. Just enough support to help build trust and create a memory of the experience.
Over time, the external support becomes internal understanding.
In yoga, as in life, we often need someone to hold the flashlight before we learn to navigate the dark on our own.
What’s one skill you’re currently learning to trust yourself with?
