Does Adding Another Treatment Really Improve Outcomes? — Weekly Review, 17 July 2026
A new episode of the Weekly Pelvic Health Research Review is now available.
This week, 89 publications were screened and 45 were retained.
The main feature asks a fundamental clinical question: when a drug, technology or additional treatment component is added to an intervention that already works, does it provide a genuine additional benefit?
This episode covers:
– botulinum toxin for chronic pelvic pain;
– mirabegron combined with solifenacin for overactive bladder;
– interferential current added to pelvic floor exercise for stress urinary incontinence;
– negative-pressure therapy for perineal wounds after colore**al surgery;
– supervised exercise for faecal incontinence;
– celecoxib after holmium laser enucleation of the prostate.
The must-read papers also examine neonatal anore**al malformation surgery, frailty before male incontinence surgery, long-term conservative management of deep bowel endometriosis, sexual function after prostate radiotherapy and different routes of uterosacral ligament suspension.
And to finish: inflammatory polyps mistaken for haemorrhoids… and two cases of re**al perforation in cats following faecal sampling.
