🎙️ **How Much Pelvic Floor Rehabilitation Is Enough?**

A new episode of the **Weekly Pelvic Health Research Review — 25 July 2026**.

This week, **78 publications were a**lysed and 12 were classified as level A**.

The main feature asks a very practical question: does effective pelvic floor rehabilitation necessarily require more sessions?

Among the key findings:

• in neurogenic bladder, a structured four-week programme produced a clear reduction in post-void residual volume;

• before robot-assisted prostatectomy, **a single prehabilitation session**, combined with home training, was associated with better continence at six months;

• in endometriosis, supervised exercise including pelvic floor training improved some aspects of sexual function in the short term;

• in a Quebec survey, more than **95%** of women reported a persistent pelvic health condition during pregnancy or postpartum, yet only about **half** accessed pelvic health physiotherapy.

This week’s must-read papers also cover manual rotation for persistent occiput posterior position, gabapentin after anore**al surgery, five-year functional outcomes from the PACE-B prostate radiotherapy trial, urinary morbidity after pelvic mesh removal, and levator hiatus changes eight years after first delivery.

And for the unusual paper of the week: a **14 × 12 × 7 cm paediatric scrotal lipoma** extending towards the pelvic floor, initially mistaken for a hydrocele and then an omental hernia.

• dans la vessie neurologique, un programme structuré de quatre semaines réduit nettement le résidu post-mictionnel ;

• avant prostatectomie robotique, **une seule séance de préhabilitation**, associée à un programme à domicile, est liée à une meilleure continence à six mois ;

• dans l’endométriose, exercice supervisé et travail périnéal améliorent à court terme certains paramètres de la fonction sexuelle ;

– toxine botulinique et douleur pelvienne chronique ;

– mirabégron associé à la solifénacine dans l’hyperactivité vésicale ;

– courant interférentiel ajouté aux exercices dans l’incontinence urinaire d’effort ;

– pression négative sur les plaies périnéales après chirurgie colore**ale ;

– exercices supervisés dans l’incontinence fécale ;

Does Adding Another Treatment Really Improve Outcomes? — Weekly Review, 17 July 2026

A new episode of the Weekly Pelvic Health Research Review is now available.

This week, 89 publications were screened and 45 were retained.

The main feature asks a fundamental clinical question: when a drug, technology or additional treatment component is added to an intervention that already works, does it provide a genuine additional benefit?

This episode covers:

– botulinum toxin for chronic pelvic pain;

– mirabegron combined with solifenacin for overactive bladder;

– interferential current added to pelvic floor exercise for stress urinary incontinence;

– negative-pressure therapy for perineal wounds after colore**al surgery;

– supervised exercise for faecal incontinence;

– celecoxib after holmium laser enucleation of the prostate.

The must-read papers also examine neonatal anore**al malformation surgery, frailty before male incontinence surgery, long-term conservative management of deep bowel endometriosis, sexual function after prostate radiotherapy and different routes of uterosacral ligament suspension.

And to finish: inflammatory polyps mistaken for haemorrhoids… and two cases of re**al perforation in cats following faecal sampling.

Obstetric Perineal Injuries and Pelvic Floor Assessment — Weekly Review, 10 July 2026

A new episode of The Weekly Pelvic Health Research Review is now available.

This week, 68 publications were screened and 35 were retained.
The first feature focuses on obstetric perineal injuries: new international guidelines on obstetric a**l sphincter injuries, OASI prevention, Episcissors 60, antenatal pelvic floor muscle training and the experience of the second stage of labour.
The second asks a practical question: what do pelvic floor ultrasound, anore**al manometry and functional questionnaires actually measure?
The episode also covers pelvic floor muscle training for prolapse, vaginal radiofrequency for overactive bladder, continence after post-prostatectomy radiotherapy, kinesiophobia in dyssynergic defecation and early urinary catheter removal after urogynecological surgery.

2026-07-03 Postpartum perineal trauma: follow carefully, without catastrophizing

This week’s pelvic health review focuses on postpartum perineal trauma: wound complications, assisted vaginal birth, obstetric a**l sphincter injury, f***l incontinence, urinary symptoms, pelvic girdle pain and functional recovery.

The secondary thread discusses pelvic floor rehabilitation: learning how to contract, checking movement quality, and then training.
