Welcome to the world, Joey💙

Huge thank you to Mam, Madi who shared these beautiful words about her birthing experience in the Daffodil Suite at the Princess of Wales Hospital.

"I gave birth in the daffodil suite last April to my first baby and my experience was so amazing that I was excited to do it again. The suite was immaculate and it’s so calming in there. The pool helped the pain so much to the point I didn’t even need gas and air!

"When my second baby was born, Joey, The staff couldn’t do enough for me, especially considering how fast the birth was. It felt like I was in a private hospital it was just amazing.

"My birth was super speedy, I got to the Daffodil Suite and started pushing straight away. He was born within 14 minutes with no complications. Rachel, Kath and Bec were amazing, super supportive and helpful with breastfeeding and the first latch. They also listened to all my questions and wishes of labour and postpartum."

Congratulations!

We love hearing feedback like this

“I need to say a massive, huge, thank you to everyone single member of the POW Emergency Department for the care my mother (and myself) have received over the last 36 hours. Thank you 🙏. Sadly, over the last 12 months between my mum, my mother-in-law and myself I have had to visit too many times. Every single time the care has been superb. Yes there have been delays but sadly that is going to happen. Today, for instance, the department is under huge pressure, you can see it, but every single member of staff has gone out of their way to be helpful and kind. Thank you ❤️”

We're delighted to announce that Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board has been shortlisted for three awards in the 2026 HSJ Awards.

💫NHS Communications Initiative of the Year Award

💫 Early Intervention and Prevention for Children, Young People and Families Award

💫 Towards Net Zero Award: Second Life Scrubs: Reusable Theatre Hats

Our shortlisted campaign, “It Takes a Village: A Community-Led Approach to Winter Vaccination Communications," brought together more than 20 community and third sector partners from our Community Leaders Network, to help increase vaccine confidence and uptake through trusted local voices, behavioural insight and community-led engagement.

We're also proud to see our PIPYN team recognised in the Early Intervention and Prevention for Children, Young People and Families category. PIPYN supports children aged 3 to 10 and their families across Merthyr, Cynon, Rhondda and Taff Ely, and Bridgend to build healthier lifestyles through free, practical support.

Alongside this, we're delighted that our Second Life Scrubs: Reusable Theatre Hats project has been shortlisted for the Towards Net Zero Award.

Led by Cwm Taf Morgannwg UHB, the project has brought together NHS organisations, private and third sector partners to repurpose end-of-life (decommissioned) scrubs, turning them into reusable theatre hats. The initiative provides a practical solution to reduce waste, support circular economy objectives and increase social value within our local communities.

Huge congratulations to all of the shortlisted projects - good luck!

Arson has consequences.

Over the past few weeks, our crews have responded to a number of deliberately set grassfires across South Wales. These incidents put communities at risk, can impact people's health, threaten wildlife, and divert emergency resources away from people who need us.

Deliberately starting fires is a criminal offence. If you see suspicious behaviour or have information about deliberate fire-setting, please report it to Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111 or the police by calling 101.

We need you with us. Let's work together to help keep our communities safe.

Yesterday, South Wales Fire and Rescue Service and South Wales Police teams responded to a fire that was deliberately started on our Prince Charles Hospital site.

The fire was set close the hospital’s helipad, an essential part of our hospital system that is used to bring some of our most seriously ill and injured patients to hospital as quickly as possible, often when every minute matters.

Thankfully, due to the quick response of the emergency services teams, the fire was brought under control, and no patients or hospital services were affected.

However, this incident could have had more serious consequences.

Deliberately setting fires, especially near a hospital, is extremely dangerous. It puts lives at risk, creates hazards for patients, staff and visitors, and can affect the services people depend on in an emergency.

Our colleagues, as well as those working in our partnering emergency services, work tirelessly every day to keep our communities safe. Incidents like this place additional pressure on already busy teams and can divert attention and resources away from those who really need it.

We would like to thank our colleagues in South Wales Police and South Wales Fire and Rescue Service for their rapid response and support.

We ask everyone to recognise the very real dangers and potentially life-changing consequences that deliberate fires can have, and to remind you to please be vigilant. If you see any suspicious behaviour in relation to deliberate fire setting, please inform South Wales Police by calling 101, or if you spot a new active fire, please call 999.

If you have any information regarding the fire set at Prince Charles Hospital, please contact South Wales Police and quote reference 2600262796.

From £70 a week to £10,000 for local families. 🧡

When members of Merthyr Cage Bird Society started collecting around £70 each week, they probably didn't imagine the difference it would make years later.

That regular fundraising grew into a £10,000 donation for the Neonatal Unit at Prince Charles Hospital, helping create warmer, more welcoming spaces for families whose babies need specialist care.

The idea came from society member Rob, whose grandson was cared for on the unit eight years ago. Wanting to give something back, he suggested supporting the Neonatal Unit and fellow members agreed. Rob shared: “It means a lot to us to see how the money has been used and to know it will help local babies and their families.”

The donation has helped refresh family bedrooms, expressing facilities and family spaces, giving parents somewhere more comfortable and private to rest, express milk and spend time close to their baby during what can be a difficult and emotional period.

The project was led by Natalie O'Dell, Neonatal Infant Feeding Lead, and brought together colleagues from across the Neonatal Unit, CTM NHS Charity and local partners. Cardiff Bay Print provided and installed specialist wall coverings, local artist Kaci Purnell created a beautiful mural for families, and the Prince Charles Hospital Estates team supported painting and refurbishment work throughout the project.

A huge thank you to Rob and every member of Merthyr Cage Bird Society. Your generosity will help local families for years to come. 🧡

Could your group or workplace help bring the next project to life?
