☀️ A GOOD NIGHT’S SLEEP STARTS WITH YOUR MORNING WALK… NOT AT BEDTIME. 😴🚶‍♀️

Want to sleep better tonight?

Get your walking boots on this morning. 👟

Your morning walk might be doing far more for your sleep than you realise…

☀️ MORNING SUNLIGHT
Getting outside and exposing your eyes to natural morning light helps set your circadian rhythm, your body's internal clock. This helps regulate cortisol in the morning and melatonin later in the day, preparing your body for sleep tonight.

🚶‍♀️ WALKING & BLOOD GLUCOSE
Walking helps your muscles use glucose for energy, supporting better blood sugar control and insulin sensitivity. More stable blood glucose throughout the day can be beneficial for your sleep.

🧠 IT HELPS YOUR NERVOUS SYSTEM
A gentle morning walk can help you start the day calmer rather than jumping straight into stress mode. Managing stress and cortisol throughout the day matters when you're trying to wind down at night.

💪 IT SUPPORTS YOUR METABOLIC HEALTH
Regular walking supports cardiovascular fitness, glucose regulation and overall health — all important pieces of the sleep puzzle.

🌙 AND HERE'S THE CLEVER BIT…

The light you get this morning helps your body understand when daytime begins, which helps strengthen the timing of your sleep-wake cycle later.

So don't wait until bedtime to think about sleep.

Your sleep routine starts when you wake up.

☀️ Get outside
🚶‍♀️ Go for your morning walk
💧 Hydrate
🥚 Nourish your body
🧘‍♀️ Keep stress in check

Because sometimes the best sleep hack isn't another supplement, sleep spray or fancy gadget…

It's simply putting one foot in front of the other. 👟

WALK YOUR WAY TO A BETTER NIGHT’S SLEEP. 😴👑

Just having 3… maybe 4 glasses of Prosecco last night has had more of an impact on my sleep than I expected. 🥂😴

I slept for less time, and more importantly, the quality of my sleep was noticeably poorer.

And this is the thing about alcohol and sleep, you might fall asleep quicker, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you’re getting the restorative sleep your body actually needs.

One night might not seem like a big deal, but if you regularly have a few drinks in the evening, it could be affecting your sleep more than you realise.

Sometimes the numbers really do tell the story. 📊💤

21/08/2026

😴 KNOW YOUR NUMBERS… NOT JUST YOUR BEDTIME!

Think you’re getting a good night’s sleep because you’ve been in bed for 8 hours?

Think again. 👀

When it comes to sleep, it’s not just about how long you’ve been in bed, it’s about the quality of the sleep you’re actually getting.

Your sleep tracker can give you a fascinating insight into your numbers:

⏰ Total sleep time – how long you actually slept
🌙 Deep sleep – important for physical recovery
🧠 REM sleep – important for memory, learning and emotional processing
👀 Awake time – how often you’re waking during the night
🔄 Restlessness – how disrupted your sleep may be

Because 8 hours in bed doesn't automatically mean 8 hours of restorative sleep.

You could be in bed for 8 hours but spending lots of time awake, tossing and turning or getting very little deep sleep.

And this is especially important during perimenopause and menopause, when hormonal changes can affect sleep quality and cause more nighttime wakening.

So stop asking yourself:

“How many hours was I in bed?”

Start asking:

“How well did I actually sleep?” 😴✨

KNOW YOUR NUMBERS. UNDERSTAND YOUR SLEEP. THEN YOU CAN START IMPROVING IT. 👑

And remember: sleep trackers are useful for spotting patterns, but their sleep-stage estimates aren't perfect.

🍰 WHAT’S MORE IMPORTANT… CAKE OR SLEEP? 😴

I know what you’re thinking… CAKE! 😂

But if you’re struggling to sleep, that afternoon or evening sugar fix might be doing more than satisfying your sweet tooth.

🍰 Too much sugar later in the day can send your blood sugar soaring, followed by a drop. Those fluctuations can leave your body working harder to bring your blood sugar back into balance.

And when your blood sugar drops during the night, your body can respond by releasing stress hormones like adrenaline and cortisol potentially leaving you restless, waking up, or finding it harder to get back to sleep.

Plus, sugary foods can give you a quick burst of energy when your body should be preparing to wind down.

That doesn’t mean NO MORE CAKE! 🙌

It means being mindful of when and how much you’re having, especially if you’ve noticed a pattern of poor sleep after an evening of sweet treats.

So tonight, ask yourself…

🍰 Is the cake worth sacrificing a good night's sleep?

Because honestly… sometimes it absolutely is. 😂

But if you’re having it every night and wondering why you’re waking up at 2am…

It might be time to look at what’s on your plate as well as what’s in your bedroom. 🌙

“Maybe menopause isn’t breaking you… maybe it’s waking you up...🔥

WHAT IF MENOPAUSE ISN’T ASKING YOU TO GO BACK… BUT TO GO OFF-ROAD? 🌿

For years, you’ve probably followed the path.

The path of what you should do.
Who you should be.
What everyone else expects of you.

Then menopause arrives…

And suddenly, the old path doesn’t feel quite right anymore.

Maybe that’s not a problem.

Maybe it’s an invitation.

🌿 An invitation to change direction.
🌿 To try something new.
🌿 To leave your comfort zone.
🌿 To stop shrinking yourself.
🌿 To finally ask, “What do I actually want?”

Because the path into the woods might look uncertain…

But sometimes the most beautiful parts of life are found when you dare to leave the beaten track.

You don’t need to know exactly where you’re going.

You just need enough courage to take the next step.

✨ Menopause isn’t the end of who you are.

It could be the beginning of who you were always meant to become.

So if life is nudging you towards a different path…

GO. 🌳

Your next chapter might be waiting just beyond your comfort zone. 💚

👇 Tell me: Are you ready to take a different path?

Coffee lovers… we need to talk ☕😂

I LOVE my morning coffee.
Honestly, don’t speak to me until I’ve had it. 😂

But here’s the thing…

☕ Caffeine blocks adenosine — the chemical that builds up in your brain and helps make you feel sleepy.

And caffeine has a half-life of around 5–6 hours, meaning that coffee you had in the afternoon can still be hanging around at bedtime. 😳

So if you’re struggling with sleep, try this little experiment:

☕ Coffee in the morning = YES!
☕ Coffee after 2pm = maybe not your best friend. 😂

You don’t necessarily need to give up your beloved coffee…
just give your body enough time to process it before bedtime.

Because apparently, “I’ll just have one little coffee” at 4pm isn’t as innocent as we thought. 🤣

Try a 2pm caffeine cut-off for a week and see what happens to your sleep. 💤

Save this for your next coffee… 👀☕
And tag your afternoon-coffee addict! 😂

🚩💯 Unexpected things I did to help with a good night's sleep 💤

Could stroking an animal actually help you sleep better?

You might think a good night's sleep starts when your head hits the pillow…

But what if it starts with a walk, some fresh air and a little animal therapy? 🥰

Walking outdoors can help support your sleep by giving your body daylight and movement, both of which are important for your body clock.

And then there's the wildlife…

Stopping to watch birds, horses, squirrels or even stroking a friendly animal can be incredibly calming. ❤️

Interacting with animals can encourage feelings of connection and relaxation and may help reduce stress — and when your nervous system is calmer, getting to sleep can become easier.

So instead of scrolling your phone tonight, why not try this:

🌳 Go for a gentle evening walk
☀️ Get some daylight during the day
🐦 Stop and notice the wildlife around you
🐴 Spend a few minutes with an animal if you can
📵 Leave your phone in your pocket
🌬️ Take a few slow, deep breaths

Sometimes the best sleep aid isn't another supplement…

It's getting outside and reconnecting with the world around you.

And let's be honest…

I'd happily swap a boring treadmill for a walk involving horses!

What animal would YOU happily stop and cuddle? 👇

Stop Skipping Leg Day 🦵

Want to support your blood sugar AND your SLEEP?

It might be time to stop skipping leg day! 👀

Your leg and glute muscles are some of the biggest muscles in your body, and working them regularly can help your body use glucose more effectively and improve insulin sensitivity.

And when your blood sugar regulation and stress response are better supported, that can help create the conditions for better sleep. 😴

So your squats, lunges, step-ups and leg presses aren't just about stronger legs…

They could be part of your sleep strategy too. 👑

Save this for your next leg day and send it to a woman who needs to hear that leg day is about more than looking good in jeans! 🍑😂

🚨 Waking up at 3am? Your dinner might be missing THIS…

“If you're waking up hungry, restless or wide awake in the middle of the night, take a look at your protein intake. 👀

Protein helps keep you fuller for longer and can help support steadier blood sugar — and that's important because big swings in blood sugar can contribute to those middle-of-the-night wake-ups.

And during menopause, protein becomes even more important because we're trying to protect our muscle mass as oestrogen declines.

So instead of having a dinner that's mostly carbs, try adding a good source of protein:

🍗 Chicken
🐟 Salmon
🥚 Eggs
🥩 Lean meat
🫘 Beans and lentils
🥛 Greek yoghurt or cottage cheese

And don't wait until dinner to get your protein.

Spread it throughout the day.

Because better sleep isn't just about what you do at bedtime…

It starts with what you put on your plate. 👑

Could your dinner be sabotaging your sleep? 👀

If you're regularly waking during the night, don't automatically blame menopause.

Your evening meal matters too.

A protein-rich meal can help with fullness and provide the amino acids your body needs for a whole host of important processes.

And during menopause, getting enough protein is especially important for maintaining muscle and supporting healthy ageing.

So tonight, ask yourself:

“Where's my protein?” 🍳🐟🥩

Because your bedtime routine might start at the dinner table. 👑

Save this for your next supermarket shop and send it to a woman who keeps waking at 3am!

“The simple sleep mistake so many women over 40 are making every day…”

Follow me for more daily tips on Sleep and Menopause...💚

I've been talking lately about sleep and how walking can help you fall asleep and prevent that 1/2/3AM wake up...

But something we don't associate with a good night's sleep is HYDRATION 💦

Are you drinking enough water?

Being well hydrated can help:

🧠 Reduce headaches and discomfort that can disturb sleep
❤️ Support normal heart rate and circulation
🌡️ Help your body regulate temperature, important for falling asleep
😌 Reduce symptoms like dry mouth, cramps and general restlessness
🌙 Support normal sleep processes and avoid waking because you're thirsty

Don't forget we need more water during warmer weather 🌞
