💭 What actually is a muscle “knot”?
Imagine your muscles are made up of thousands of tiny elastic bands, all lying neatly side by side.
Every time you move, those little bands tighten and then relax again.
Sometimes, a small group of them doesn’t fully relax. Instead, they stay shortened and bunched together, creating a tight, tender spot within the muscle. That’s what we commonly call a muscle knot.
This can happen after:
• Sitting in the same position for too long
• Lifting heavy
• Overuse and intense exercise
• Poor posture
• Stress, which causes muscles to stay tense
Because the muscle fibres are staying tight, the area can become sensitive to touch and may even send pain somewhere else. That’s why a “knot” in your shoulder can sometimes contribute to headaches or neck pain.
Massage can help encourage those tight muscle fibres to relax, improve blood flow and reduce tension, helping the muscle move and feel more comfortably again. 💆♀️
