Do you need to track your food when you’re in ketosis?
The short answer is yes — at least to begin with.
When you first change your diet, it’s surprisingly easy to eat more carbohydrates than you realise. Tracking helps you keep carbs low while also understanding how much protein and fat you’re actually eating.
But do you need to track forever? Absolutely not.
You just need to track until you become familiar with what your daily targets actually look like - for example:
🥑 20g carbohydrates
🥩 100g protein
🧈 100g fat
Once you understand portions and what those numbers look like on your plate, you can become much more intuitive with your food.
I use Carb Manager and recommend a simple set of kitchen scales when you’re getting started. Because if you don’t track, you often don’t realise just how much you’re actually eating.
And ketosis can bring some lovely benefits too:
✨ More stable energy
✨ Ketones as an alternative fuel for your brain
✨ BHB (beta-hydroxybutyrate) has signalling and anti-inflammatory effects
✨ Weight and visceral fat loss
✨ Less hunger and food noise
✨ A greater sense of control around food
