It’s been a hot minute since we last posted!

Life has been busy lifing for us all at COR Equine. Just as the seasons change, so does life. But often with less predictability than the seasons. Then again, with climate change maybe it’s all the same! 🍂🍃

We’ve had a good start to this last push in academic year with our incredible young people we’re so privileged to work with. And we’ve had some new adult clients start with us too, which creates a nice balance for our horses and coaches to their work with young people. ☀️

We’ve also been busy planning new ways to support our clients. So watch this space for support for parents of SEN children, adults looking for a mindful mix of horse time and Reiki and more ways to expand our equine-assisted learning opportunities.

If you’ve reached out recently and not had a reply, please call or email again. We’d love to hear from you 📲

A question we often get asked is do we have to train our horses for therapy work.

The answer is no, there’s no training. There is one critical thing that enables a horse to be involved in therapy - and that is freedom.

For a horse to be able to respond to our energy, and our feelings, a horse needs to have freedom of expression. They need to know they can safely share their own feelings with us and be heard.

Then they can support us, rather than be responding to training cues or fighting for their own safety or needs to be met.

We often demonstrate this with Jimmy. Jimmy will only tolerate a very select few humans in his world. So when he chooses a client, this is not trained, this is not duty, this is true connection 🫶

(Here he is enjoying scratches in the field with a favourite small person, all the while none of us in the team could get anywhere close to him 😅)

Stopping for a cuddle on the way out this evening.

Jackson is brilliant at reminding us to slow down and take a moment, particularly on the busiest of days 🫶

Be more Anthony, what does that really mean?

Anthony is calm but incredibly playful. He’s quietly content, yet loud when he needs something. He’s independent, yet an incredible best friend.

To bring out the Anthony in ourselves, is to be true to our soul. And give great cuddles 🫶

Percy 💛

Percy is a yellow fellow! He’s easily excitable and easily worried. He’s also very loud about his big feelings!

But when Percy feels calm, the impact that he has on those around him is enormous. He can bring calm to the stormiest of moments in our lives 🫶

A safe maple tree or an unsafe sycamore.

Helping a nervous system feel safe can be tricky, its never a one size fits all, not everyone is the same. One persons peace can feel like danger to another

Time with our wonderful ponies gives people the space, time and agency to be however they need to be. To be themselves, to be able to act without fear of repercussions, to be able to explore their own boundaries and step outside of their comfort zone safe in the knowledge they can step back anytime. We meet them where they are.

We don’t dictate comfort, we help create conditions where comfort can emerge.
Because when someone feels safe enough to be themselves, even just for a moment, transformation begins.

What makes time with us so special for young people?

✨We like to to have fun. Not scheduled, or orchestrated fun that works for an Instagram post.
Good old fashioned, roll down a hill fun, jump off a hay bale, put your hat on upside down fun!

🍂 We keep our rules to those essential for safety. Real safety. Not peace and quiet dressed up as safety! We run, we dance, we sing. Sometimes we also need to scream and shout to let big feelings out!

Our ponies have been there and got the T-shirt on seeing it all, so we don’t have to tiptoe around them. Quite often they’ll start the chaos just for fun!

🫶 We don’t mind if that all sounds a bit loud and silly. Some of our clients like to be really quiet and not really speak at all apart from gently with the ponies. And that’s just fine with us. We’ll never force a conversation. Anthony is the best listener you’ll ever meet.

We’ve only a couple of spaces left a week now. So get in touch if you’re interested to find out more about our groups or 1:1 options.
