This is so true.

A sad part of my job is seeing clients arrive feeling disappointed with themselves for not being ''as healed'' as they thought.

What they've have missed is that yes, a set back happened during the week but actually the difficult feelings passed quickly or they found a technique to help them manage those difficult feelings while they lasted. They were able to come to their session and clearly describe what happened during the set back.... And that is healing.

Healing is not avoiding all triggers forever. Healing is using the insight and techniques gained from sessions to help you step out of the difficult feelings and restore a sense of calm.

Healing may take a little longer than expected, and it make look or feel a little different to what you expected but that doesn't mean progress isn't happening.

Yes! I love this.

A counselling session really is your time to just be yourself. Not all sessions are perfectly curated like you would see on TV shows, or as AI might offer. Sometimes the work is messy, unclear, unstructured and that's ok. Some sessions may feel heavy and some may feel so much lighter and that's ok too.

You don’t need to filter yourself, suppress your emotions or abandon parts of yourself at the therapy door.

All of you is welcome in the room.

Therapists, what would you add to this list?

Would you recognise burnout?

Do you know the signs of burnout?

It’s more than feeling stressed. Burnout can creep in slowly, leaving you detached, drained, and overwhelmed, sometimes before you even realise what’s going on.

TW: Domestic Violence

The World Cup 2026 is just about to start, but not everyone is looking forward to a major football tournament.

Research by Lancaster University has shown that cases of domestic abuse increased by 38% when England lost a match and 26% when they won or drew.

Boundaries can be transformational for self confidence, building and maintaining healthy relationships, preventing burnout, and providing emotional and physical safety.

Yet for many people they feel so difficult to implement.

Being able to explore what boundaries mean to you can bring understanding as to why they feel so difficult to identify and set, and to help you overcome the hurdles that hold you back from setting and maintaining boundaries.
