The Edinburgh Shamanic Centre was established in 2003 by co-founders Claudia Goncalves and Mark Halliday, working deep, doing, creating, and co-creating deep healing work in the community. Passionate about the Shamanic ways of being and living, we work closely and support the community in so many ways and levels. We have a deep commitment to the old ways, teaching the shamanic ways of

living from the heart, the ways of harmony, humility, self-empowerment, and treading lightly on our Earth Mother. What inspires us

Our inspiration comes from the examples of indigenous communities all around the world where since the very beginning of human times, they always worked together for the benefit of the whole, working in communion with Spirits to receive and pass on deep spiritual teachings, blessings, and healing for each member of the community. With our Shamanic work, we help people manifest their dreams and visions. We help people to empower themselves and find the inner voice of the Great Spirit within. We work with people of all races, creeds, and beliefs. People of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds come to the Shamanic Centre to find their own inner power and spiritual authority. We help them to find the answers that lies within. Needing empowerment, self-belief, healing, clarity, or direction? All you need to do is contact us. We are here always happy to serve. Today, we invite all of you to offer this support in a very simple way - by joining the online event held by Vesku Yawanawá next Tuesday, 28th of July, where she will present her project aimed at preserving and protecting ancestral medicines and knowledge. The initiative is titled “Troca de Saberes” - the Ancestral Knowledge Sharing Gathering - an encounter that brings together healers, midwives, shamans and community members to exchange and strengthen knowledge on indigenous medicine, cultural heritage and spiritual practices.

Vesku invites all of those who have experienced the sacred traditions of the Yawanawá people or lived the forest’s wisdom through other indigenous communities to join her free online event next Tuesday July 28th at (choose one option) 4pm UTC time; 5pm UK / Portugal time; 6pm Central European Time. The event will feature the launch of the Troca de Saberes website, a platform built for helping to strengthen and share traditional practices and sciences amongst indigenous peoples. It will also hold a conversation on how Indigenous and non-Indigenous sciences can meet respectfully to better understand ancestral medicines, protect traditional knowledge, and help create the rights that both Indigenous peoples and the ancestral beings they work with deserve.

By offering your time and coming to this event, you are doing your part in sustaining these traditions that sustain life itself. Don’t miss it.

Chapada dos Veadeiros is the region in the central of Brazil where we have our retreat centre called Recanto do Beija-Flor, very near the small village of Alto Paraíso de Goiás.

Sometimes we can’t really understand rationally what brings us to a place. But after landing there and creating the space and becoming more familiar with the surroundings, we cannot fathom the intensity of the abundance of nature that encompasses the whole landscape.

So many species of insects, reptiles, mammals, birds, parrots flying over our heads all day long and toucans making their unmissable appearance.

The morning breakfasts with many nourishing native “quitutes” and food, watching over the valleys and nature’s sprouting in her many forms everywhere.

We hope to share this place and its magic with you if you feel called to join one of our retreats at Recanto do Beija-Flor someday.

Our upcoming journey together with the Yawanawás is in February 2027 and we will support you all the way from the UK/Europe to find us in the central of Brazil.

🌿 Something beautiful is on the horizon…

For years, people have asked: “Will you ever take us to Brazil?”

The answer is yes. Finally, yes.

In February 2027, I am inviting a small, intentional group to join me at the Recanto do Beija-Flor - The Hummingbird’s Home - nestled in the mountains of the Chapada dos Veadeiros in central Brazil.

This is not a tour. This is not a festival.

This is a week of sacred ceremony with Maná Madhá and the Yawanawá teachers - people I have been privileged to learn from and work with since 2016.

The town of Alto Paraíso sits on the exact same latitude as Machu Picchu, Peru. This alignment, along with the massive underground quartz crystals, is why many consider it a sacred “vortex”. Famous as the “Cradle of Waters” for its hundreds of cascading falls and incredible biodiversity.

It’s not just a retreat. I am inviting you into something I hold very, very dear.

The Danger of Ayahuasca in the Hands of ‘Plastic Shamans’

A message I received recently:
"Hi Claudia, we met last year when Pajé Mana, Radusha and Vesku were in Edinburgh. I wanted to share something that's been on my mind. Over the years, I've known a number of people who took part i so-called Ayahuasca ceremonies led by people who've been to the Amazon and come back claiming to be shamans qualified to lead these ceremonies. I think it is really, really bad news. I've seen people develop what I consider to be incurable mental illnesses through doing these things - they are no longer able to function properly in everyday society, and it's hard to see how they will come back in this lifetime.

I always say: if people like Pajé and Vesku lead these ceremonies within the specific environment and cultural context of the Amazonian tribes, it works, because they hold the tradition of how to do these things and have been working with this plant for possibly tens of thousands of years.

But when white people who are 'plastic shamans' get hold of th run alleged ceremonies - charging money for them - it is very dangerous. This is just my opinion, based on what I've observed.”

My response:

My dear friend, this subject is very close to my heart and very what I wrote about in my book Shamanism as Medicine. Ayahuasca is a sacred medicine that demands respect and reverence - it's not something to approach casually.

I'm unequivocal about this: people should never participate in ceremonies facilitated by non-indigenous practitioners. They lack t spiritual knowledge and training necessary to work with these medicines and their forces. Most problematic are those who attend handful of ceremonies in the Jungle, then position themselves as legitimate facilitators. That's precisely why I bring people to Brazil to work with Pajé Mana, Vesku, and Radusha - authentic practitioners who hold this medicine as their ancestral inheritance and truly understand what they're doing. They've been immersed in a living tradition since childhood, a lineage that safeguards the medicine's sacredness.
