A bolster can add comfort and support to many yoga poses, helping us soften, relax and settle more comfortably. We often use them in my Relaxing Flow classes, where slowing down and finding what feels right for us are all part of the experience.

Ever noticed how much harder balance feels when your eyes are closed?
Without visual cues, we need to pay closer attention to the feedback coming from the body. We might notice where we're placing weight through the foot, whether we're leaning slightly forwards or backwards or over to one side.
It’s harder than you think (or maybe it’s just me 🤭).

Recently we have been focusing on balance.
Balance work challenges more than just our muscles.
It can help build strength, improve body awareness and encourage us to focus on what's happening right now. When we're balancing, there's often less room in our minds for shopping lists, work worries and everything else competing for our attention.
Sometimes balance isn't just about staying upright. It's about being present in the moment.
A little strength, a little focus and maybe a little wobble too 🤭.

I'm loving this variation of Thread the Needle at the moment.
Taking it from Child's Pose feels really comfortable for me and gives a lovely stretch through the upper back and shoulders. It feels so nice! 😊

This week in class we'll be exploring balance and flexibility.
We'll start by finding our feet in Tree Pose, perhaps even playing with briefly closing the eyes to notice how balance changes when we take away some of our usual points of focus.
From there, we'll gently stretch and strengthen through the legs with poses such as forward folds, Pyramid and Half Splits, helping to create a little more space in the hamstrings and hips.
As always, there will be options, so you can find what feels most beneficial for you.

🪑People are often surprised that we use weights, bands and balance work in chair yoga too. It’s such a great way to build strength and mobility in a supportive, relaxed environment.
I’ve got a couple of spaces in Thursday’s class this week if anyone would like to come along and try it.☺️

This week our theme is:
“The body whispers before it shouts.”
So often we wait until we are completely exhausted, overwhelmed or tense before we slow down and listen.
This week’s classes are an invitation to pause a little sooner. To notice the quieter signals, soften the shoulders, breathe more deeply and create some space for the nervous system to settle.
Expect some flowing movement, mindful breath and a few longer held poses to help us tune in and notice what the body might be asking for.

A little timetable change for the coming week (week beginning 26th May).
There will be no classes on Tuesday 27th May, and no 4.30pm class on Wednesday or Thursday.
