I'm celebrating the 'little' big wins today. One of the most rewarding parts about being a speech and language therapist is seeing a child gradually find their voice and their confidence.

I recently received some amazing updates from the parent of one of my little clients who experiences selective mutism. He's talking to more people and in more situations - this is a huge step for him. These changes might seem small to someone looking from the outside but they represent massive progress and bravery.
I particularly love is that his progress is happening beyond the therapy room - he's carrying that confidence into his everyday life.

There's no magic switch and no straight line with selective mutism. Progress can be gradual. Sometimes we take a small step forwards and sometimes we take a small step back. But every new person spoken to, every new situation managed and every moment of increased confidence is worth celebrating.

A huge well done to this little one and to his parents for noticing, supporting and celebrating every step along the way.

🌿 Back to work after a lovely summer break! 🌿

I’ve really enjoyed having some time to slow down, switch off and spend quality time with family. We’ve had some lovely trips, made the most of the sunshine and enjoyed plenty of those simple family moments that are so easy to miss when life gets busy.

But now it’s time to get back into the swing of things! I am genuinely looking forward to:

💬 Meeting some lovely new clients and families
🌟 Seeing familiar faces again
🎓 Delivering training for nursery and early years teams
🧸 Getting back into groups and sessions in local nurseries
🗣️ Supporting children and families with their speech, language and communication skills

I feel very lucky to do a job that I love, working alongside families and early years settings to help children communicate, connect and thrive.

The summer break has definitely recharged the batteries, and I’m feeling refreshed, motivated and ready for the new term! 💛

Here’s to a busy and exciting few months ahead!

It was really great this week to be able to spend time with parents at Movilla Playgroup and Nursery and Bangor West Nursery Playgroup. We chatted all things speech and language and I gave my top tips for supporting children as they get ready for their P1 year. Really looking forward to supporting both of these amazing settings again next year.

It was a super fun Easter filled week at Bayburn Speech Therapy with Easter themed stories, egg hunts and lots of hopping around like bunnies! I do love a good theme.

Bayburn Speech Therapy is officially closed for a wee Easter break. Back in action on 13th April and looking forward to a busy summer term!

We had great fun!

What a lovely morning spent working in small groups with Kathryn from Bayburn Speech.

This game helps to promote speech, vocabulary, turn taking, waiting and sequencing.

Why not try a board game with your this weekend? Such lovely opportunities during these for language development.

Another great morning running groups, this time at Bangor West Nursery. Followed up by seeing a little client at daycare to support with speech sounds and stammering.

Also this week I'll be delivering Elklan training online to teachers and TAs, running more preschool groups, seeing individual clients and doing a talk about speech therapy to a group of St John Ambulance cadets. Can't say this job lacks variety!

Lovely first morning back after half term carrying out some speech and language therapy groups in a local preschool. Now time to write up some notes before seeing individual clients this afternoon.

Delivered some training yesterday with the amazing staff at Movilla Playgroup and Nursery. Looking forward to our next training day in March and some other exciting stuff coming up really soon at this lovely setting.

Happy Christmas from Bayburn Speech Therapy! Thank you to all my lovely families who have worked so hard this year. I feel very lucky to be a part of your speech and language journey.

We close for the Christmas break on Monday 22nd December and return on Tuesday 6th January. Looking forward to seeing you all again in 2026!
