It's thin. Not gonna lie, my patience has been very thin this week. But as usual, in all challenging situations there's an opportunity for reflection, a lesson, and a cheesy teachable moment. ๐๐
I've been doing some DIY that 'should' have taken a couple of days, but instead hurdle after hurdle means it's taking 17 billionty hours instead. ๐ฅต๐ญ
Well, to be honest it 'should' have been done by workmen that I'd booked but who let me down. ๐ So, I had to accept that if I wanted (needed!) it done by the end of the summer then I was going to have to suck it up and get on with it myself. Apparently that's resilience. And it appears that 'sucking it up and getting on with it myself' is something I've become good at (used to) over the years through necessity. ๐คทโโ๏ธ This week I needed to dig deep. Really deep.
Interestingly though, it was a familiar pattern that unfolded. One that got my attention.
Initially my heart sank when I realised the enormity of the job. Then I moaned about it. A lot. Then I tried to wish it away and pray that someone else was going to sweep in and sort it all out for me. But after a while of attempted to 'fight and flight' the situation, I had to accept that no-one was coming to save me and if I wanted this done I was going to have to dig deep and sort it out myself. Then the swearing started.
Sound familiar?
I struggled. With energy, focus, motivation, and skill! I was having to do something I didn't want to do. The time it was taking also had a knock-on effect with other summer plans and projects. ๐ฅต
I was on a tight deadline and the task was overwhelming me. So, I had to sit down and have a word with myself.
Step by step.
Little by little.
One day at a time.
One HOUR at a time.
Just do the next bloody 5 minutes!
It was that bad. ๐
Cups of tea and a Miley Cyrus playlist helped. ๐
Eventually though, there is now light at the end of the tunnel. And this is where despair turns into pride.
I'm super pleased with myself.
I changed my mindset. (Eventually ๐)
I juggled the diary.
I learnt new skills.
I persevered when exhausted.
I didnโt give up.
I did the hard things!
Reflection... lesson... teachable moment.
Life throws s**t your way. Fact.
It could be small s**t or big s**t. The emotions are often the same. ๐คทโโ๏ธ
So, you might not be facing DIY challenges right now, but you WILL be facing something. You probably don't want to be facing it, and maybe feeling all the emotions I have.
But you CAN face it, navigate it, and overcome it.
You might not WANT to do it, but the important thing is you CAN.
And in today's current world we have to remember that we CAN do hard things.
The human spirit is strong and resilient. Humans have survived crazy, stressful and dangerous periods of time.
Have we become a bit soft in our comfy modern world? Maybe.
Maybe we should APPRECIATE it, but not EXPECT it. ๐คทโโ๏ธ
Because life will throw s**t to upset the easy ride. But it's ok cause you've got this.
So, go forth with the Tea Intention for today that you can do hard things. ๐ช๐ฅฐ
Always. ๐
