FOLLOW-UP TO THE MEETING -ACCESS and APPOINTMENTS
Following the meeting chaired by Luke Murphy MP the practice has now provided an overview of its improvement plan.
The meeting brought together the NHS service commissioner NHS Hampshire and Isle of Wight senior Operose managers, practice representatives, local and regional clinical leads and your CGHB Patient Participation Group, Basingstoke.
It was a full and frank discussion about access concerns and the changes patients need.
What does the overview include?
👉Recruiting additional doctors, including a dedicated doctor to lead the assessment and prioritisation of patient requests.
👉Improving telephone access by matching reception staffing more closely to call demand. Resolving more requests during the initial assessment, with the appropriate healthcare professional.
👉Recording routine requests through the same system, whether patients contact the practice online, by telephone or at reception.
👉Restarting regular patient newsletters and publishing “You said, we did” updates.
📌 The practice’s stated aim is for patients to see improvement in routine appointment waits by October 2026.
These are planned improvements. What matters now is whether patients experience easier contact, shorter waits and clearer communication.
📌The practice have today published a newsletter which gives information on recent challenges and the work going on

📌What will the PPG follow up?
👉We will seek clearer explanations of how potentially serious symptoms are recognised and prioritised, how patients can obtain reassessment if symptoms worsen without having to make a complaint, and how the practice website will be improved to make finding the right help easier.
👉We will also ask for specific targets and regular progress updates, and share the practice’s full public update when available. The PPG represents patient views and presses for constructive improvements. We cannot assess symptoms, arrange appointments or manage individual complaints, but we can signpost patients to the appropriate support. The conversation has happened. The practice has outlined its plans. Now we want patients to feel the difference.
