Eximius Live-In Support

Eximius Live-In Support Ensuring comfort and independence at home 💜 Kate Hetzel (Owner):
Since 2002 I have seen the enormous positive impact live-in support has on people’s lives.

Live-In Care because...
💜 There Is No Place Like Home 💜
Compassionate care for your loved ones, from companionship to complex needs like dementia, parkinson’s, spinal or brain injuries. Following a 16-year career in sales and marketing, I started a care franchise in 2002 and one of my first ever clients needed a live-in carer. Since then, it has always been a passion of mine. I operated the busi

ness for 13 years, employing over 100 carers, and had more than 350 clients at any one time. Our clients came from all walks of life and needed different specialised care. Whether recuperating from a spell in hospital or hindered by a long-term condition or disability, giving them the support they needed in familiar surroundings near friends and family couldn't be beaten. It's why I'm so passionate about live-in support. I was then inspired by my mother to set up Eximius and deliver an altogether superior service. She is wonderfully spirited, sophisticated and fiercely independent, despite being 80 years old with floundering memory. She's the yardstick against which I measure the service we provide and the reason I believe that everyone should be able to stay in their homes, living the happiest and most independent lives they can. My vision for Eximius is that, while we still support complicated care needs, the focus is on our clients' lives, what they love doing, their hobbies, their interests – with Eximius support companions ensuring that they receive the exceptional help to enable them to live their lives to the fullest.

🏆 We’re delighted to share some fantastic news!

Eximius has received the Outstanding Dementia Training Award from Training2Care, recognising our excellence in dementia training and our commitment to improving the lives of others.

This recognition is particularly special to us because of our partnership with Training2Care, including bringing the Dementia Bus experience to our team. Through immersive virtual reality and sensory experiences, the training gives carers an insight into what living with dementia can feel like - helping them better understand some of the challenges a person with dementia may experience.

For us, dementia training is about more than knowledge. It’s about developing empathy, understanding and a truly person-centred approach that can make a meaningful difference to the people we care for. 💜

We’re incredibly proud of our team and delighted to have our commitment to high-quality dementia care recognised with this award.

A huge thank you to Training2Care for their continued partnership and for helping us make dementia training such a powerful experience. 💜

Supporting People Living with Dementia 💜

At Eximius, we believe good dementia care begins with understanding the person.

Fear, confusion, frustration, repeated questions, resistance, agitation or anger can all be ways of communicating when someone is unable to express what they need or how they feel.

In difficult moments, a calm and compassionate approach can make all the difference:

💜 Listen to the emotion – consider what the person may be feeling, not just what they are doing.
💜 Look for the need – could they be in pain, hungry, thirsty, tired, uncomfortable or overwhelmed?
💜 Keep things simple – break tasks down and allow plenty of time.
💜 Offer reassurance first – help the person feel safe before gently redirecting their attention.
💜 Connect rather than correct – sometimes reassurance and understanding are more important than getting the facts right.
💜 Notice changes – sudden changes in behaviour could indicate that something else is wrong and may need further attention.

And we mustn't forget those providing the care. Supporting someone living with dementia can be incredibly rewarding, but it can also be emotionally and physically demanding. Carers need care too.

A useful reminder is HEART:

H – Hear the emotion
E – Explore the need
A – Approach with calm
R – Reassure and redirect
T – Take care of yourself too

At Eximius, compassionate care isn't simply about responding to a behaviour. It's about seeing the person, understanding the emotion and responding with dignity, patience and kindness. 💜

Keeping you connected to your loved one’s care — wherever you are. 💛

With our care management software, families can keep up to date with their loved one’s care from near or far, using an app on their phone or through the desktop website.

You can access their care plan and receive real-time updates throughout the day, giving you greater visibility and reassurance without having to constantly pick up the phone to check in.

☕ What have they had to eat and drink?
💊 Have they taken their medication?
🌿 What have they been up to today?

It might be as simple as seeing that they’ve enjoyed breakfast and a cup of tea in the garden, making the most of the fresh air before the day gets too warm.

Live-in care is about so much more than having a carer in the home.

Behind every carer is the Eximius office team, keeping sight of our clients’ daily routines and ensuring any concerns are flagged promptly so the right management support can be provided.

And for families, it means staying connected without care updates taking over your day. You can check in when it’s convenient for you and see, at a glance, how your loved one is getting on.

Care you can feel connected to, even when you can’t be there. 💛

When a Parent Refuses Care 💜

Watching a loved one struggle while refusing help is one of the hardest situations families face. Often, it's not stubbornness—it's fear of losing independence, pride, or uncertainty about what care really means.

The key is to approach the conversation with patience and empathy:
✔️ Listen before offering solutions.
✔️ Start with small, manageable support.
✔️ Reassure them that care is about maintaining independence—not taking it away.
✔️ If you're worried about their safety or decision-making, seek advice from their GP or social services.

If you're navigating this difficult journey, you're not alone. Read our latest blog for practical advice and compassionate guidance.
