It's exam season so I thought now would be a good time to talk a little about brainwaves.
Throughout our day our brainwaves change to enable us to achieve different things. Here is a quick breakdown:
Beta brainwaves are where alertness and multitasking happen. They help us focus which is why learning also happens in Beta brainwaves. Unfortunately, Beta is also where anxiety, stress and overwhelm live.
Alpha Brainwaves are where we are relaxed yet alert. They enable the brain to recover and lead to improved cognitive function and better emotional regulation.
Theta Brainwaves are associated with deep relaxation or even light sleep. They are critical for memory creation and therefore essential for learning and creativity.
Delta Brainwaves occur when the body is in it's deepest restful state. Healing, growth and immune function are all dependant on this restful state.
If you, or a family member are doing exams remember that rest leads to improved memory retention and creativity. Balance your revision with deliberate rest to give your brain time to recover.
Balance is best. Be deliberate in your relaxation. Yoga, meditation, sound therapy and drumming work quickly to restore balance.
4 minutes of drumming can alter brain waves as much as 1 hour of meditation!
Let me know if I can help. 1:1 sound baths, family sound baths and drum circles, Safe and Sound Protocol all help balance brainwaves.
I am flexible in my support. I can come to you, hire a hall locally or even go outside for a good dose of sound and nature.
Good luck to all of those doing exams, you got this.
