The 'ear', as you know, goes deeper than you may think!

The ear is split into 3 parts:

- Outer (the part we can see)
- Middle (where the 3 bones live)
- Inner (where the hearing organ itself, the Cochlea, lives

All work simultaneously to receive, filter and transmit the sound off to the brain where it is processed and understood.

Sound travel through the ear canal and vibrates a thin piece of skin called the Tympanic Membrane a.k.a ear drum.

This is then cause the 3 little bones to move and this send a signal to the Cochlear, the organ of hearing.

The Cochlear then sends a signal to the brain, which is processed and understood... most of the time.

Those who possess a hearing loss have some difficulty somewhere along this path. It is the job of an Audiologist to find out where and guide you on the next steps.
