Huge congratulations to our incredible therapist, Nikki who completed the Superhero Triathlon alongside the very family she supports! šŸ’™

This wasn’t just a race. It was a powerful reminder of what’s possible when hope, hard work, and community come together. Nikki, Dani and Tom showed us all what real strength looks like.

To everyone who donated, cheered, shared, and supported: THANK YOU. Your generosity helps us continue providing vital therapy, support, and hope to families across our community.

If you’d still like to contribute, you can donate here:

Nikki has been practising hard for her Beacon Family Services fundraising triathlon which is happening TODAY! She is swimming 750 metresšŸŠin Lake Dorsey, Windsor (which is a lovely lake, but maybe not so much if you have to swim so far in it! šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚)

Nikki is joined today by Tom and Dani and their son, who has cerebral palsy and will be taking part in some of the triathlon in his wheelchair and modified bicycle.

Last year we supported nearly 500 families and reached 1.2k children with our play therapies. This fundraising mission will help us continue to be there for families, providing vital play therapies for those who would benefit from them.

The summer holidays can feel long. Some days are full of joy. Some days seem to be full of meltdowns. And most are somewhere in between.

There might have been moments of play too.

And in amongst all of that, who children are and who they become is shaped in their relationships.

That is, the small, everyday moments of being together through it all.

That’s the part that stays.

If you need a reminder of that, you can read more on our blog. Link in comments šŸ‘‰

We meet parents all the time who say playing with their child just isn’t that easy. Not because they don’t want to but because it doesn’t quite feel how they thought it would.

They tell us they want to enjoy it more. And sometimes there’s a worry alongside this that their child might be finding it hard to play with other children too.

Children’s play instinct develops differently and there are lots of reasons why it can feel hard to play with them. And none of them are that you’re not very good at playing. (That’s not a thing, by the way.)

Some children need a bit more help finding their way into play and some need it to look a bit different.

Good luck to Nikki as she takes on the Superhero Tri Series on 15th August!

She will be completing a 750m swim in Dorney Lake in Windsor for the swimming part of the triathlon. Parents Tom and Dani will be running and cycling. Their son has cerebral palsy and will be joining his parents where possible in his adapted bicycle and wheelchair.

Nikki is taking on this challenge for Beacon Family Services, and of course we couldn’t let her go on her amazing adventure without a gift to protect her from the elements!

If you would like to support our superhero triathloneers and donate to this amazing challenge, Nikki’s justgiving link is below:

The thing about hide and seek, the most important thing, is that no one really wants to stay hidden for long.

There’s that moment of waiting. That tiny bit of anticipation. And then phew… being found.

And it can be as simple as that out in the garden behind a tree, under a blanket. Or a treasure hunt or a game of Marco Polo (especially good in a swimming pool).

You don’t have to think too much about it. Just a few minutes of being in it together.

And there’s something in being found that children seem to hold onto…

What will you play for 5 minutes?

03/08/2026

We were all children once who longed for the summer holidays… for the space and the time to play.

And maybe, if we’re honest, some of us still long for that now too. For a break from the routine, or a moment where things feel a little lighter.

Play has a way of doing that. It brings us together and it can shift the feel of even a busy day, just a little.

So, this summer, we’re keeping it simple and asking can you find 5 minutes to play with your child? Just a few moments together.

If you’re curious about why play matters so much for children’s social and emotional development, our Play Therapist Peppy Hills shares more in her blog. Link in commentsšŸ‘‰

maybe there’s a small moment of that waiting for you today.

Our easy-to-use lumin&usĀ®ļø app can help you and your child to experience moments of connection through play. See link and freebie code in comments if you’d like to give it a try this summer.

As the school year ends, we often expect things to feel easier. And sometimes they do.

But not always. You may be noticing or worrying that instead of settling, things feel a little more unsettled because the structure of the day has gone and familiar people aren’t going to be there in the same way.

Some children are more sensitive to change because of their life experiences. When familiar anchors aren’t there, they can feel unsure. That can mean big feelings, more movement and more resistance.

It can feel confusing as a parent. Head over to our blog to read an adoptive parent and teacher's thoughts about how to cope and focus on the small, everyday moments of connection that will help everyone begin to feel safe again.
