We were really pleased to be invited to the Worcestershire Glaucoma support event this morning, hosted by Mr Tarun Sharma who is an Ophthalmic Consultant and Clinical director of Ophthalmology for the Worcestershire NHS trust.
Ian Robinson gave a short presentation on the crucial role that Opticians play in detecting the first signs of glaucoma during an eye test, and referring the patient on to the consultant to manage their condition going forward.
Glaucoma is often referred to as the 'silent thief of sight' in that sometimes there are no symptoms until the disease is advanced, by which point a patients sight is at risk. Regular eye tests are vital to detect it and ensure effective management. It can often run in families.
Robinson Opticians were also pleased to gift a pachymeter to Mr Sharma and his team for use in their NHS clinics. This is an essential piece of equipment used to calculate accurate intra-ocular pressure in patients with suspected glaucoma.
By attending events like this , we make sure we stay informed of the latest developments in Glaucoma care, and understand the journey that many of our patients are experiencing.
This event is free to attend to all affected by Glaucoma , their family and carers. Keep an eye on our page as we will keep you posted on the next event date.
