What does Sports Therapy actually involve? πŸ€”

One of the biggest misconceptions I come across is that sports therapy is just a massage.

Massage can be a valuable part of treatment, but it's only one piece of the puzzle.

A sports therapy session may include:

βœ… A thorough assessment to identify the cause of your pain.
βœ… Hands-on treatment to reduce discomfort and improve movement.
βœ… Mobility work where needed.
βœ… Strength and rehabilitation exercises to address the underlying problem.
βœ… Advice to help prevent the issue from returning.

Whether you're a runner, gym-goer, office worker or simply struggling with everyday aches and pains, the goal isn't just to make you feel better today - it's to help you move better for the long term.

If you've been living with pain and aren't sure where to start, a proper assessment can make all the difference.

What's one ache or pain you've been putting up with for longer than you should?

Stretching feels good... but it isn't always the solution for back pain.

One of the most common things I hear is:

"I've been stretching my back every day, but it still hurts."

Stretching can temporarily reduce tension and improve mobility, but if the muscles supporting your spine aren't strong enough, the pain often returns.

Think of it like this:

βœ… Stretching helps improve movement.
βœ… Strength training helps your body cope with everyday life.

The best results often come from combining both.

By improving strength, stability and movement quality, you're giving your back the support it need - not just temporary relief.

If you've been stretching for weeks and your back pain keeps coming back, it may be time to look beyond flexibility and identify the real cause.

Have you found stretching helps your back, or does the pain always seem to return?

Progress isn't always measured by the number on the scales. Sometimes it's measured by the courage to take the first step. ❀️

A client (we'll call her Jane) came to me with one goal, to lose around three stone. But beneath that was something much bigger... a lack of confidence.

At first, she was so anxious about the gym that we spent our first couple of sessions simply chatting in the reception area.

There was no pressure. No judgement. Just taking things one step at a time.

By week three, we made it onto a treadmill.

Over the following months, Jane's confidence grew alongside her fitness. We built a routine that worked for her, gradually increasing her activity until she was training with me twice a week, completing regular cardio and strength exercises.

Six months later, she'd achieved the weight loss she'd hoped for.

But the biggest transformation wasn't the three stone she'd lost...

It was the confidence she'd gained.

She walked taller. Smiled more. Believed in herself again.

That's why I love what I do.

Helping people become stronger is importantβ€”but helping someone realise they're capable of more than they ever thought possible is the real reward.

Sometimes all it takes is one small step... and someone who believes in you until you're ready to believe in yourself.

3 reasons your shoulder pain keeps coming back...

Shoulder pain isn't always caused by the shoulder itself.

Here are three common reasons it keeps returning:

1. You're treating the pain, not the cause.
Painkillers and rest may calm things down temporarily, but if the underlying issue isn't addressed, it often returns.

2. Weakness or poor movement.
The shoulder relies on several muscles working together. If one area isn't doing its job, another has to compensate.

3. You return to activity too soon.
Just because the pain has settled doesn't always mean the shoulder is ready for normal training or everyday activities.

Every shoulder is different, which is why an assessment is so valuable. Understanding why it hurts is the first step towards getting back to moving confidently.

Have you ever had shoulder pain that disappeared... only to come back again?

Pain doesn't always mean you've caused damage.

One of the biggest misconceptions I hear is:

"If it hurts, I must have injured something."

The truth is, pain is your body's warning syste - not always a sign that tissue has been damaged.

Pain can be influenced by:

βœ”οΈ Muscle tightness or weakness
βœ”οΈ Poor movement patterns
βœ”οΈ Stress and lack of sleep
βœ”οΈ Previous injuries
βœ”οΈ Doing too much... or sometimes not enough

That's why getting the right assessment is so important. Treating the source of the problem, rather than just the symptoms, often leads to better long-term results.

If you've been putting up with an ache or pain that's stopping you from doing the things you enjoy, don't ignore it. The sooner you understand what's causing it, the sooner you can start moving comfortably again.

Have you been living with a ni**le that's just never quite gone away?

Progress isn't built on the days you feel unstoppable.

It's built on the days you don't.

The days when you're tired.
When your body feels stiff.
When motivation is nowhere to be found.
When life gives you every reason to skip the walk, miss the workout, or put your recovery off until tomorrow.

Those are the days that shape you.

As someone who works in rehabilitation and performance, I've seen incredible transformations. Not because people were the strongest or the fittest, but because they kept turning up. One small decision at a time.

Your body is incredibly adaptable. It can become stronger. It can move better. It can recover. It can surprise you.

Don't underestimate what six months of consistency can do.

Start where you are.
Use what you have.
Keep moving forward.

Your future self is built by the choices you make today.

Sunday is your reset, not your rest day from looking after yourself.

Whether you're dealing with aches and pains, getting back into exercise, or simply wanting to move with more confidence, every small step counts.

You don't have to be perfect. You just have to start.

As a Personal Trainer and Sports Therapist, I help people reduce pain, improve movement and build strength that makes everyday life easier.

Make this the week you do something your future self will thank you for.

If you've been putting off sorting that niggling injury or getting back into fitness, send me a message and let's have a chat.

Have a great Sunday! πŸ’ͺ

It's Friday!!!!!!

A reminder that looking after your body isn't about being perfect... it's about being consistent.

You don't need to train seven days a week. You don't need to eat perfectly. You don't need to be the fittest person in the room.

You just need to keep showing up.

Every workout, every walk, every healthy meal and every small decision adds up over time.

Your future self will thank you for the choices you make today.

Have a fantastic weekend, keep moving, and remember...

Progress always beats perfection. πŸ’ͺ
