The Get Up
“A poem about resilience ” ©
Courage forms and reforms in countless dreams, yet waking from slumber hardens the silent screams.
Screams with no purpose but the weight of despair —no armour left to lift, because it isn’t there.
Vulnerable, frail, yet resilient they say, but how do I even begin this day?
Noise already churning in its familiar loops —that cycle of doubt, shame, doubt, shame, tightening its noose.
Supposed to be robust, supposed to rise and go, yet I’m scared of more blows — my courage hasn’t peaked, my spirit feels weak.
And life winds you up like some toy on a shelf, expecting motion even when you’re drained of yourself.
Batteries thinning, breath running out ~ still the world whispers, “Get up.”
So I do.
And I start the day.
