💚 Tommy Update 💚

Well… in true Tommy fashion, he somehow managed to spend his very last day of nursery in hospital 🏥

Thankfully, thanks to the new neutropenic protocol, we were able to come home and let him recover in the comfort of his own surroundings while we wait for his blood results and cultures. We’re incredibly grateful for that.

As this chapter comes to an end, we want to say a huge thank you to everyone at Happy Days Nursery, Bishopbriggs. You have gone above and beyond for Tommy throughout his cancer treatment and recovery. Your kindness, patience, understanding and unwavering support have meant more to us than you’ll ever know.

You’ve celebrated every milestone with him, cared for him through the difficult days, and helped give him as much normality as possible during the hardest time of our lives. We will always be so thankful for everything you’ve done for our brave little boy.

Now it’s time for Tommy’s next adventure… school 🏫 📚 ✏️

How has it already come around so quickly? It’s scan day again for Tommy and time for his 3-monthly scans.

It feels like we were only just here, yet somehow another three months have flown by. No matter how many times we face scan day, it never gets any easier. The waiting, the uncertainty, and the rollercoaster of emotions are just as real every single time.

One thing we are celebrating today, though, is another huge milestone. Tommy now weighs 18kg. Looking back to December 2025, when he was just 12kg, it’s hard to believe how far he’s come. Six kilograms might just sound like a number, but to us it represents so much more. It represents strength, healing, resilience, and all the little victories that have added up along the way. We know just how hard he’s had to fight for every step forward, and we couldn’t be prouder of him.

As always, Tommy has been amazing. He takes everything in his stride with a smile that continues to amaze us, and his courage inspires us every single day.

Today, we’re hoping and praying for another set of good scan results. If you could keep Tommy in your thoughts and prayers, we’d be so grateful. Thank you for always being by our side and cheering him on. It means more to us than you’ll ever know.

Today marks a very special milestone as Tommy graduates from nursery, and we couldn’t be prouder. Looking back on his nursery journey, we are filled with gratitude for all the wonderful people who have supported, encouraged, and cared for him along the way.

We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Happitots, where Tommy spent the first 12 months of his nursery journey. Those early years were so important in helping him settle, grow in confidence, and begin exploring the world around him. We are incredibly grateful for the love, care, and support he received during this time.

We would also like to express our sincere thanks to Happy Days, where Tommy has spent the final 2½ years of his nursery journey. The dedication, patience, kindness, and encouragement shown by the team have helped him flourish into the happy, confident, and curious little boy he is today. The friendships he has made, the experiences he has enjoyed, and the memories he has created will stay with him for years to come.

Over the last 3.5 years, Tommy has been surrounded by people who have genuinely cared about his wellbeing and development. We have watched him learn new skills, build friendships, gain independence, and grow in confidence, all while being supported every step of the way. As parents, there is no greater comfort than knowing your child is happy, loved, and encouraged to be the best version of themselves.

As Tommy closes this chapter and prepares for his next adventure, we want to say a huge thank you to everyone at both Happitots and Happy Days for the part you have played in shaping his early years. Your kindness, guidance, and unwavering support have meant so much to our family, and we will always be grateful.

We took a few days before writing this because, if we’re honest, we’ve been trying to find the right words.

June is Cancer Survivorship Month, and that has left us reflecting on where Tommy is in his journey.

The word “survivor” is a strange one. Technically, Tommy isn’t classed as a survivor yet, as many definitions use the five-year mark after diagnosis as a milestone. Five years feels like such an odd amount of time to wait before being given that label, especially when so much has already been endured and overcome.

Tommy is no longer in frontline treatment, but he’s still receiving treatment, attending appointments, and living with the reality that cancer continues to be part of our lives.

We are deeply grateful to be in this position. There was a time when this felt so far away, and we never take for granted how fortunate we are to be looking ahead with hope.

But somehow, this stage feels more unsettling than we expected.

During frontline treatment, there was a clear plan. We knew what we were fighting, what the next appointment was, and what came next. Now we’re learning to live in the in-between — where life begins to look a little more normal on the outside, but the uncertainty can feel louder than ever.

Survivorship isn’t always a finish line. Sometimes it’s learning to carry what you’ve been through while trying to move forward. It’s gratitude and fear, hope and uncertainty, all existing side by side.

This Cancer Survivorship Month, we’re thinking of everyone whose journey doesn’t fit neatly into a box. Those in treatment, those in remission, those living with cancer, and those finding their way through this complicated chapter.

We’re incredibly thankful to be here. Tommy is still moving forward, still healing, still fighting in his own way. And while we don’t have all the answers, we’re embracing each day as it comes, celebrating the progress made, and holding on tightly to hope.

Whatever the definition says, we know how much strength it has taken to get this far.

The Quinn’s are reunited ❤️ 🏡

We are home after a long and traumatic 4 days in hospital.

Tommy has been very sick battling adenovirus and otitis media, and DFMO has been stopped for now as it can cause ear-related issues. He’s now on a course of antibiotics and we’re hopeful DFMO can restart soon 🤞

Thankfully, Tommy has now been temperature-free for over 30 hours and is starting to manage some crackers with butter and small amounts of fluids, which feels like a huge step in the right direction ❤️

Unfortunately, an NG tube has had to be placed again. It’s brought back a lot of difficult and traumatic memories, but hopefully it will only be short term and will help get his antibiotics into him, as he refuses all oral medication (DFMO is currently crushed into a smoothie!).

We’re so grateful for everyone’s check-ins, messages, prayers and well wishes over the last few days — they’ve meant more than you know ❤️

Very grateful to finally all be back home together.

Life after cancer treatment isn’t the “back to normal” people imagine. 💛

The appointments might slow down, the hair might grow back, and the outside world expects you to pick up where you left off — but it doesn’t work like that.

Every small thing carries weight now. A temperature isn’t “just a temperature.” It’s checked, double-checked, and taken seriously because your immune system isn’t what it used to be. Medications that are unlicensed, unfamiliar, and a little scary.

There’s a quiet vigilance that never really leaves. A constant awareness of your body, of risks, of what could be.

This is our reality right now.

Tommy is back in hospital with a temperature of 39.6. We’re waiting for the doctors’ round to find out if his X-ray is clear and whether we can go home, rest, and ride out whatever bug he’s picked up this time.

He has no line access due to remission status and has been the bravest boy when getting his cannula placed.

Recovery isn’t a finish line — it’s a different way of living. One that takes strength people don’t always see.
