π What is Cerebral Palsy and What Are the Different Types? π
Cerebral Palsy (CP) is a lifelong neurological condition that affects movement, muscle control, balance, posture, and coordination. It is caused by damage to, or abnormal development of, the developing brain before birth, during birth, or shortly after birth.
Every person with Cerebral Palsy is unique. Some people may have mild symptoms, while others may require more support in their daily lives. Although CP is a lifelong condition, it is not progressive, meaning the brain injury itself does not get worse over time.
There are four main types of Cerebral Palsy:
π Spastic Cerebral Palsy β The most common type. It causes stiff or tight muscles and can affect movement and posture.
π Dyskinetic Cerebral Palsy β Causes involuntary movements that may be slow, twisting, or sudden and jerky.
π Ataxic Cerebral Palsy β Affects balance, coordination, and depth perception, making precise movements more difficult.
π Mixed Cerebral Palsy β A combination of two or more types of CP, with symptoms varying from person to person.
People with Cerebral Palsy can achieve amazing things with the right support, opportunities, understanding, and inclusion. Raising awareness helps break down barriers, challenge misconceptions, and create a more accessible world for everyone.
Letβs celebrate the strength, resilience, and individuality of people living with Cerebral Palsy. Together, we can promote acceptance, inclusion, and equal opportunities for all.
