Grounding techniques are strategies designed to help you stay present, calm your mind, and manage anxiety or emotional distress.

How Grounding Techniques Help:
Reduce stress and anxiety: By focusing on the here and now, grounding techniques can lower stress hormone levels and calm both body and mind.

Interrupt negative thought patterns: They create a mental “pause” from spiraling thoughts, allowing you to regain control over your emotions.

Enhance emotional regulation: Grounding helps you distance yourself from intense emotions, making it easier to respond thoughtfully rather than react impulsively.

This week is Mental Health Awareness Week, and the Mental Health Foundation have chosen the theme this year as 'Taking Action', as, in their words, 'while awareness is vital, real change comes when we take action too'.

Part of the theme this year focuses on how we can take action on improving our own mental health and gives some ideas on how you can get a quick boost to help form long term healthy habits. They offer a list of actions we can take today to improve our mental health. Below is a link to an 'action wheel' that allows you to 'spin the wheel' and it will suggest a random activity for you to try.

Perinatal Wellbeing
1 in 5 parents can experience mental health problems such as anxiety and low mood when expecting a baby or following the birth of their child.

Some symptoms are a completely normal part of having a new baby, such as sleeping difficulties, poor concentration and lack of interest in s*x. However, further mental health problems following the birth of a new child can cause great distress. It may impact the adjustment to parenthood and caring for a newborn, affecting parental confidence.

We offer a perinatal workshop to any parent experiencing low mood, anxiety or worry.
Please get in contact with our service on 0300 303 2708 or email [email protected] if you are interested or would like anymore information.

Visit: https://www.talkplus.org.uk/resource/perinatal-wellbeing/ for a perinatal workbook which goes through more tools and techniques to support with mood and anxieties.
