Thoughts can feel manageable when they are brief. But when the same burden is carried repeatedly in the mind, it may begin to turn into more than a thought; it can also become an emotional and physical weight. When the mind keeps circling around the same worry, a person’s ability to move forward can gradually begin to narrow.
📌 Nolen-Hoeksema (2000) showed that repeatedly dwelling on negative thoughts and emotions over long periods of time can increase psychological distress and negatively affect functioning. Anxiety may be shaped not only by what is happening, but also by how long the mind continues to carry it.
💧 Some burdens become heavier not because they cannot be solved, but because they are never put down.
