The woods asked something different of me this morning.

Almost every tree seemed to have its own tiny guardian... a loud, buzzing hoverfly announcing my arrival as if to say, "This space is already occupied."

My instinct was to hurry through, to avoid them.
But the only way forward wasn't to fight them or fear them. It was to accept that they belonged there as much as I did.

So I slowed down.
I gave them space.
And eventually they let me pass.

Perhaps that's true beyond the woodland too. Not every uncomfortable feeling needs to be chased away. Sometimes we move forward not because discomfort disappears, but because we learn to walk alongside it with patience.

Acceptance doesn't remove every obstacle. Sometimes it simply helps us find our way through 🐾🌿

Bearfoot-Note 🐾✏️

Today's tiny woodland guardians were hoverflies. Although they look a little fierce, they're completely harmless to us. Many males spend warm mornings faithfully patrolling a favourite patch of woodland, returning to the same lookout time and again. They also play a vital role as pollinators, helping the woodland flourish.

A quick check-in with Shirley today 🪨

No agenda. No expectations. No need to have all the answers.

Just a reminder that when life gets complicated, it helps to find your way back to the simple things.

A walk beneath the trees. The warmth of the sun on your face. A favourite path. A mossy rock and a tree-hugging companion.

The world will always offer problems to solve, questions to answer and worries to carry.

But nature asks very little of us.

Just arrive. Breathe. Notice.

Sometimes clarity doesn't come from thinking harder.

Sometimes it comes from sitting quietly in the woods, listening to the birds, feeling the earth beneath your feet and remembering what really matters 🐾🌿

Weekend Wellness: Hello Summer

The season of elderflower and long evenings.

Of sun-warmed paths and wild places.

Of dragonflies dancing over water and birdsong drifting through open windows.

We didn't quite get to celebrate Spring Awakening this year... Life had other plans.

But summer has arrived anyway.
Bringing longer days. Lighter evenings. And fresh invitations to step outside and notice.

At Bearfoot, this season is all about Summer Vibrance.

Not striving. Not rushing.
Simply embracing the warmth, colour, energy and wonder that nature offers so freely.

So here's your invitation this weekend:

Lift your face to the light.
Pause beneath the trees.
Notice what is blooming around you.
Follow the dragonflies.
Welcome the puddles and the rainbows too.
And let yourself bloom in your own time.

Hello Summer.
Hello Vibrance 🐾🌿

What signs of summer have you noticed this week?

Where Resilience Is Found 🌳

The magic wasn't in the tree itself... it was in returning.

To the same tree. The same patch of earth. The same stretch of sky.

Long enough to notice the daffodils unfurl. The swifts arrive. The seasons turn.

Long enough to realise that nature doesn't rush.

Standing through sunshine, storms and winter darkness, the oak remained.

And by returning to it, day after day, one person began to notice something else that had been there all along.

Perhaps that's one of nature's greatest gifts... it reminds us of what we already carry within us.

Sometimes resilience doesn't need to be built.
It simply needs to be remembered 🐾🌿

(A lovely little article my mum shared with me)

After a period of burnout, I realised that nature knows what you need, and is always ready to offer it – you just have to be quiet enough to receive it

Bearfoot-note 🐾✏️

Moments of play, laughter and awe help activate our "rest and connect" pathways.

Nature doesn't always need to be profound.
Sometimes wellbeing simply looks like fresh air, a happy dog, and a rock called Dwayne.

What gives you the prickles?

Some days, life leaves us feeling wound up and wounded.

Quick to guard.
Quick to protect.
Quick to grow prickles

At Bearfoot, we've been thinking about holly.

When threatened, holly grows sharp, spiny leaves as a form of protection and once those defences are in place, they stay that way.

Nature's teaching is gentle here.

We may grow prickles too... but unlike the holly, we are not destined to remain guarded forever.

With patience, practice, and awareness, we can work with our nervous system to return to calm.

From prickling and guarded... to open, steady, and connected.

And the best part?
Your breath is the key!

So, next time you feel an attack of the prickles coming on, pause before reacting.

Try this gentle Softening Breath 🌬

Breathe in slowly through your nose...
Take one small extra sip of air at the top...
Then exhale slowly and fully for longer than you inhaled.

Repeat 2–3 times.

A tiny forest pause for your nervous system🐾 🌿

It's the most wonderful time of the year...

And for me, that means elderflower season.

Every year, just as the hawthorn fades and summer begins to settle in, the elderflowers arrive. Tiny creamy-white blooms lining the hedgerows, filling the air with their sweet, unmistakable scent.

There's something special about gathering them.

Slowing down. Noticing what's growing right on our doorstep. Bringing a little of the season home.

A few flowers, a simple recipe, and a little patience later... elderflower cordial is back on the kitchen shelf 💚

One of my favourite reminders that nature works to its own timetable, and some of life's simplest pleasures can't be rushed 🐾🌿

Have you spotted the elderflowers yet?

Surrounded by blue 💙

As I wandered through woodland this morning, damselflies seemed to appear everywhere I stepped.

Resting quietly on leaves. Dancing through shafts of sunlight. Landing just long enough to be noticed before moving on again.

Some cultures believe that animals, birds and insects can carry messages.

Not necessarily supernatural ones.

Just gentle reminders to pay attention.

And after the week I've had, I found myself paying attention 🐾🌿

Bearfoot-Note 🐾✏️

Damselflies spend much of their lives hidden beneath the water before emerging with delicate wings.

Because of this remarkable transformation, they have become symbols of change, adaptability, and growth.

They're often associated with harmony, grace, emotional clarity, and the beauty of living fully in the present moment.

A reminder that we are capable of adapting to new environments, navigating change, and evolving in ways that may not always be visible to others.

Their brief adult lives seem to whisper another lesson too:

Don't get too caught up in yesterday or tomorrow.

Pause.
Notice.
Be here now (very Bearfoot).

Whether they were carrying a message or not, being surrounded by so many felt like a gift.

And perhaps that reminder was exactly what I needed.
