Come celebrate Deb's & another student's birthday at Coffee Club next Friday. Perfect excuse to get together!

Coffee Club is for those that would love a bit more community and social time after class. It’ll take place on the last Friday of every month, right after Debs’ Morning Flow (9.30–10.30am).

Come along for some movement at 9.30am, then stay for a good natter and a chance to connect with our lovely community. You’re warmly invited to stay and join us from 10.30am at Dandelion Café for a relaxed post-class social.

Book your spot for Morning Flow on Friday 29th May on our timetable. https://www.heatheryoga.co.uk/timetable/

Please note: the drinks and food aren’t included, so you’ll need to purchase these yourself directly from the café. We’re simply creating a welcoming space for you to gather, chat, and unwind. Of course, you don’t have to buy anything to join in: just come along, see our Coffee Club poster on a table, pull up a chair and enjoy the company. *Other drinks and snacks are available too!

Reflex Integration & Yoga

Sharing as I find this fascinating and hoping others will too. As a yoga teacher specialising in supporting children and young people with SEND and SEMH I am always looking at ways to further help my clients.

Over the past couple of years I have been studying RMTi - Rhythmic Movement Training International, a movement-based therapy which uses short daily exercises that mimic the body’s natural development process to improve the functioning of the body’s innate reflexes (https://rhythmicmovement.org/rmti-explained/).

Reflex integration has a multitude of benefits for all ages ranging from:

- reducing anxiety
- improving speech difficulties and supports non-verbal - communication
- improving social and emotional skills
- develops better time management
- improving sensory processing skills

and has also shown to be particularly beneficial for those with Autism, ADD/ADHD, Dyspraxia, Dyslexia and Sensory Processing Disorder.

I am working towards becoming an RMTi Consultant (https://rhythmicmovement.org/career-paths/) so I can fully integrate this with the yoga I teach - they complement each other beautifully in my opinion.

Whether you are a yoga professional, teacher, another professional working in this world of therapeutic services, a mum or carer, and you are interested to find out more there are RMTi professionals across the UK and internationally (https://rhythmicmovement.org/member-type/professional/).

Some of the upcoming trainings in Bradford with Suzanne Roberts who I am training with are here:

"I have now found a new fabulous hobby thanks to Debs. Debs creates a calm, safe space and invites us to make every session our own by allowing us to do just what we need on that particular day or time. Being a parent/carer means needing time for yourself and, quiet time, peace and relaxation and Debs creates this in her sessions. I am so grateful to have found these classes. They restore my energy and peace for the week ahead. Thank you Debs."

"Yin yoga is rooted in ancient philosophies that emphasize balance and harmony within the body and mind. It draws from Taoist principles, focusing on the duality of yin (passive) and yang (active). This practice encourages deep introspection and a connection to one’s inner self.

The benefits of yin yoga extend beyond physical stretches. By holding postures for several minutes, practitioners can release tension stored in connective tissues. The slow pace allows for mindfulness, cultivating a deeper awareness of breath and sensations.

Additionally, yin yoga supports emotional health by creating space for reflection. It invites practitioners to confront emotions that may arise during poses, fostering acceptance and letting go.

This practice is also an antidote to our fast-paced lives, promoting relaxation in both body and mind. Engaging with these gentle movements helps restore balance while enhancing flexibility over time."

This is something I am acutely aware of and passionate about offering support to.

Yoga and Relaxation for Teens starts Wed 25 Feb 6-6.45pm at Tribe Headingley

"Over the past decade, mental health problems among young people have risen dramatically, sparking concern from parents, policymakers and mental health professionals alike. The over 3 million increase in working-age individuals self-reporting long-term mental health conditions – the sharpest rise among those aged 16–34 – goes beyond a temporary crisis. It reflects profound societal, developmental and structural changes in how we support young people, raising urgent questions about the root causes of this growing crisis."

Excited to be offering monthly Family Yoga sessions at Yoga Leeds

If you've never tried it and wondering what it's about read on!

"Families come in all shapes and sizes, and so do their bonding rituals. For some, it's weekly dinners; for others, it’s movie nights or road trips. But what if your family's "thing" also strengthened everyone’s mind, body, and spirit? Enter yoga. The benefits of practicing yoga together stretch far beyond just exercise – it’s a practice that fosters physical and mental well-being while bringing loved ones closer. This ancient practice doesn’t just aim to align your spine; it aligns hearts and intentions, creating an enduring sense of togetherness."

Why we are offering this...

"There is a growing body of evidence demonstrating the physiological, cognitive and psychological benefits of yoga and meditation on stress management in children and adolescents who face a host of social expectations, school demands and exigencies of social media, and in school teachers for whom multiple sources of chronic stress, including workload, young people and parents, can result in low morale and burnout.

Yoga can improve reasoning, working memory, self-confidence, resilience, mood and self-regulation skills pertaining to emotions and stress, hence provide lifelong skills[1]. Offering yoga as part of the secondary school curriculum can facilitate universal coverage, thus reducing inequalities and contributing to improved wellbeing for young people."
