Birds fly. Fish swim. Children play.

A few simple words that beautifully capture a lifetime of work dedicated to understanding children.

Dr Garry Landrethโ€™s words and work transformed the field of play therapy and continue to guide therapists as they sit alongside children with acceptance, curiosity and trust.

He helped the world see that within play there is a child communicating, connecting and healing.

His legacy will continue to be felt every time a child is met with empathy, acceptance and the freedom to play.

Thank you, Dr Landreth.

๐Ÿ’šAnd thatโ€™s a wrap!๐Ÿ’œ

This weekend marked the final group supervision session with the Therapeutic Play Certificate Postgraduate group.

To reflect on their journey, participants created a mandala representing their learning, growth, challenges, and achievements throughout the training. The insights shared were thoughtful, moving, and a testament to the commitment each person brought to the process.

As a fun experiential activity, we also explored the use of games in supervision. At Inspire Play Therapy, we recognise that board games can build connection, lower defences, encourage reflection, and create opportunities for deeper understanding. It was wonderful to see familiar games viewed through a different therapeutic lens.

A huge thank you to all participants for their enthusiasm, openness, and engagement throughout the supervision process, and for kindly allowing me to share images from our final session.

We checked out with a final reflection, and each participant selected a symbol to begin building their own supervision toolkit, a meaningful reminder of the journey completed and the path ahead.๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’š

Young swans don't learn and grow in isolation. They explore, venture out, and develop confidence knowing they have a safe base to return to. Children are much the same. When a child feels emotionally safe, understood, and connected, they are more able to express themselves, process difficult experiences, and discover their own strengths. Through play, they communicate what words often cannot.

In play therapy, creativity helps children build confidence, develop emotional awareness, and work through challenges at their own pace. Sometimes a crayon drawing or a messy paint session can tell a story that words simply canโ€™t.
Every mark, colour, and creation has meaning. ๐Ÿ’›

In a busy world โ€ฆ.some simple connection ideas โ€ฆ..At Inspire Play Therapy, we work with the belief that children donโ€™t always need more instruction, they need space, safety, and a relationship that helps them make sense of their inner world. Our role is to support parents in understanding what their child is communicating through play, even when there are no clear words for it yet.๐Ÿ’š

We use child-led, non-directive play, symbolic expression, and carefully held therapeutic presence to help children process feelings, experiences, and internal conflict in a way that feels natural to them. From a Jungian-informed lens, we also pay attention to themes, symbols, and patterns that can emerge in play, often revealing what the child is trying to integrate or work through beneath the surface.๐Ÿ’œ

Rather than โ€œfixingโ€ behaviour, we focus on connection, co-regulation, and meaning-making. ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’š

Blue isnโ€™t just a colour โ€” itโ€™s a feeling. ๐Ÿ’™

The calm before the storm. The deep breath after a long day. The quiet confidence of stillness. Blue has a way of slowing the noise, helping us focus, reflect, and reconnect with ourselves.
From the endless sky to the depth of the ocean, blue reminds us to pause, think clearly, and find peace in the moment. How does blue make you feel?

Sometimes the most meaningful play happens in the quiet moments ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’š๐ŸŒž

A simple chair, a table, open sky, and space to just be.

When children have time to slow down, explore nature, and even feel a little โ€œbored,โ€ something powerful happens, their imagination begins to wake up. Creativity grows, stories unfold, and play becomes their language.

In play therapy, we trust these moments. The freedom to wonder, create, and connect with the world around them can be deeply healing.

Sometimes, less really is more ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’š

Grounding through play๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’š

Sometimes regulation doesnโ€™t come from words ,it comes through the body, rhythm, and sensory experience. These simple, playful techniques create safe pathways for children to reconnect with themselves.

๐Ÿซถ Finger taps โ€“ building focus and gentle rhythm
๐Ÿ Humming โ€“ bringing awareness to internal vibrations
๐Ÿฆ‹ Butterfly taps โ€“ offering soothing bilateral movement
๐Ÿ‘ Clap patterns โ€“ encouraging connection, timing, and co-regulation
๐Ÿ‰ Dragon breaths โ€“ releasing energy in a powerful, imaginative way
๐ŸŒˆ Rainbow breaths โ€“ slowing everything down with visualised calm

In the playroom, these arenโ€™t just activities ,theyโ€™re invitations. Invitations to feel, to notice, to regulate.๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’š

Follow your childโ€™s lead. Let it be messy, playful, and theirs.๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’œ

Because regulation learned through play is regulation that lasts ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’œ
