πŸ’™ Men's Mental Health Week πŸ’™

15th-20th June is Men's Mental Health Week, and it's an important reminder that looking after your mental health is just as important as looking after your physical health.

Men are statistically at higher risk for mental health challenges and su***de. Male su***de accounted for nearly 3/4 of all su***des in England and Wales in 2023, and remains the leading cause of death for men under 50 years of age.

As men, we're often taught to "get on with it", stay strong, and keep our struggles to ourselves. But true strength isn't about suffering in silence, it's about recognising when you need support and having the courage to reach out.

Just as we train our bodies, we need to take care of our minds. Whether that's talking to a friend, spending time exercising, getting outdoors, taking a break when needed, or speaking to a professional, every positive step matters.

This week, let's check in on ourselves and on the men around us. A simple conversation could make a huge difference to someone who is struggling.

Believe it or not our attachment style can be formed as early as 6months old. It is through these early experiences we learn whether we are able to trust our care givers or not. It is then through life experiences that this attachment can become a core belief leading to various issues we face when forming relationships.

If you have been struggling with understanding the reasons for your patterns of behaviour or cycles of issues in relationships then counselling can help you to understand parts of you that you may not be aware of that keeps distorted core beliefs unresolved.

Masking can take many forms. When we recognise what they are and why we use them we can understand what need we are trying to meet.

If milk gets bad, it becomes yogurt. Yogurt is more valuable than milk. If it gets even worse, it turns to cheese. Cheese is more valuable than both yoghurt and milk. And if grape juice turns sour, it transforms into wine, which is even more expensive than grape juice. You are not bad because you made mistakes. Mistakes are the experiences that make you more valuable as a person. Alexander Fleming’s mistake led him to invent Penicillin. Don’t let your mistakes get you down. It is not practice that makes perfect. It is mistakes we learn from that makes perfect!

Sometimes we worry about the things we cannot control but struggle to recognise those things we can. This is a great visual to help Bertrand these two things and enable us to reframe some of those negative thoughts.
