We are Charity of the Year 💛

Less than three months after becoming a registered charity, the Henry Grierson ADHD & Mental Health Foundation has been named Charity of the Year at the Pride in Diversity Awards Yorkshire. This award belongs to everyone who has stood with us: our trustees, our volunteers, the schools and the families.

Thank you to The Bradfordian for running the story 👇

Do you love a boy with ADHD? This one is for you.

We have written a free guide, 5 Things Every Young Person with ADHD Wishes You Knew, full of the practical, human things that actually help. It is free, we just send it to your email:
https://henrygrierson.org/adhd-guide

If it helps you, please share it with one other parent. Somewhere there is a mum or dad googling at midnight who needs it too.

A free, compassionate guide from the Henry Grierson Foundation helping parents and carers understand young people with ADHD, what's beneath the behaviour and what really helps.

One for the lads who knew Henry. And for their mums, because let's be honest, you are the ones who will show them this.

Johnny Lawless is running the Mind Gym. Six Monday evenings on Zoom. It is not counselling, nobody is going to make anyone talk about their feelings on cue, and there is no homework. Think of it like training. You train your body, this is the same idea for handling pressure, low moments and the stuff that goes round in your head.

Rugby team, the college crowd, the school friends, the cadets crew. This one is for you, and it would mean a lot to see you there. Train your body in the gym, train your mind at Mind Gym.

Email [email protected] and we will sort you out with the details. That is it, that is the whole ask.

Well, we finally did it. Our first ever newsletter went out this week, and honestly, writing it made me realise just how much you lot have carried us this year.

Henry's Sound was bigger and louder than ever, about 130 of you, and between the gig and our Uncle Henry, who is now 80 (he pedalled 250 miles across Scotland on bacon baps and sheer determination, and ended up on ITV while he was at it), we raised £10,066. Since we started you have helped us raise over £40,000 in Henry's name. I still have to read that number twice.

And a special shout to Vicky, who walked half of Huddersfield collecting raffle prizes, to Luke's Lads and Unmasked Halifax who stood up and shared their stories on the night, and to every single one of you who came, danced, bought a raffle ticket or just shared a post. It all counts, it really does.

If you won a raffle prize and you have a photo or a story about it, send it to [email protected], we would love to see.

And if you did not get the newsletter and you want it (it is a good read, Cath our trustee wrote it and she is funnier than me), sign up at henrygrierson.org and you will get this one as a welcome, plus every issue after.

All of it, every penny and every share, goes towards reaching young people like Henry before crisis. That is the whole point of everything we do. ❤️

Our mission has always been clear: to break the link between ADHD and su***de.

Boys and young men are at the highest risk of su***de, and ADHD adds to that risk - research shows people with ADHD are significantly more likely to experience suicidal thoughts and attempts, particularly where diagnosis comes late or support is missing.

To deepen the support we can offer, I’ve spent the past year training as a Certified ADHD Life Coach (CALC) with the International ADHD Coach Training Center, on an ICF Level 1 accredited programme focused specifically on ADHD.

ADHD coaching isn’t about handing out quick-fix tools. It’s a partnership - we sit alongside boys, young men and their families, listen deeply, and help them make sense of how ADHD shows up in their lives. Together we explore what matters most and choose small, meaningful steps that help them stay safer and more connected. Any strategies grow out of that relationship, not from a one-size-fits-all checklist.

That partnership is part of how we break the link: a safe space to be fully heard, to notice what’s driving despair, and to build their own ways of staying connected and asking for support before crisis.

Coaching is not therapy and not a crisis service. If you’re struggling now, please don’t do it alone - contact Samaritans on 116 123.

July is Bereaved Parents Awareness Month, dedicated to raising awareness about the grief parents experience after the unimaginable loss of a child and highlighting the importance of support, understanding and hope.

If the loss is due to su***de, this is often described as 'grief with the volume turned up.' A wide range of emotions may be experienced, from shock, anger and despair to guilt, anxiety and depression. Some people may also have thoughts of not wanting to live, or feel that life is no longer worth living without their child.

💫 Support and information for those bereaved by su***de, as well as other forms of bereavement, can be found at https://lnkd.in/eXqq8TwD on The Jordan Legacy website, including links to organisations offering help and guidance.

Start before you feel ready. Do it anyway.

This charity began as an idea that, on paper, barely existed. No big budget. No guarantees. Just a belief that ADHD and mental health deserve to be talked about openly - and that no one should feel alone with it.

Now we're Yorkshire Charity of the Year.

If you've been waiting for the perfect moment to start something that matters - this is your reminder. The conversation you start could be the one that saves a life.

Get involved. Share your story. Reach out. We're building this together.
