Exercise wins again!

This new study followed nearly 150,000 people over 30 years.

It is a great reminder of how important keeping yourself physically fit and active is, if you wish to live a longer, healthier life.

Remember folks, this is not 1.5-2h per day, this is per week. Under 20 minutes a day!

Start small and build from there. Something is better than nothing! 🏋️‍♀️🏋️

** DO I NEED A SCAN TO SAFELY DIAGNOSE, MANAGE AND TREAT MY KNEE PAIN? **

Although scans play an important role in healthcare, they are not always required.

Physiotherapists are trained to safely assess and treat your knee pain without a scan.

If your symptoms suggest a scan may be beneficial, a physiotherapist can refer you for this.

This is why it is important to get your knee pain assessed, so you can be advised on the best way forwards.

Do you have a healthy relationship with exercise?

For many, not getting enough exercise is the problem. For some, exercising too much is the issue; whether that be due to pressures from coaches/family, the need for income or just because they have an unhealthy relationship with exercise.

Exercising too much, or having a reliance on exercise can result in becoming fatigued, physically weak, having reduced immune system function and can effect mood.

It can also put you at increased risk of injury.

Signs that you may have an unhealthy relationship with exercise:

- Not allowing yourself to have rest days
- Exercising through injury despite it not improving
- Being underweight but continuing to exercise for weight loss
- Pushing yourself to the limit every session

If you feel you have an unhealthy relationship with exercise, your GP will be able to advise you on your options such as talking therapies.

Physiotherapists can help you recover from injuries associated with exercising too much, but these injuries are often more complexed and take longer to heal.

Make sure you seek the appropriate professional help if you feel you fall into this category, to help you better manage your relationship with exercise.

It’s always a good feeling when the clocks go forward, allowing for more daylight hours.

It doesn’t always feel so good losing an hours sleep, but luckily any symptoms experienced as a result of the clocks changing only lasts a maximum of a week.

Did you know that regular disruption to your circadian rythm (your body’s internal clock) can have an impact on various different systems of the body, including its ability to build muscle, recover after injury and maintain good bone health.

Those who may suffer with regular disruption to their circadian rhythm are people who work shift petterns, or who travel regularly over different time zones.

This is when trying to keep some kind of routine becomes important, ensuring regular strength based exercise alongside cardiovascular focus such as running, swimming or rowing. Aiming to perform these at similar times each day/night helps the body to manage its systems more effectively.
