I find this fascinating- how death and dying were such a visual thing ‘in the olden days’ and how this would have created a public relationship with d ‘n’ d that wasn’t hidden away.

Beginnings, middles and ends…
Alongside being The Good Egg Celebrant I’m also a DJ (you can book me to play records at your celebration too) and music has always played a huge part in my life. These are the songs my wife and I chose for our wedding ceremony - two for our entry, one for when we were signing the register, and Just Like Heaven as we headed out to married life!

Couples in England and Wales will be able to marry almost anywhere under new plans the government says will update ‘outdated’ marriage laws.

As it stands, weddings and civil partnerships must be held at a licensed venue to be legally recognised.

Under the new proposals, ceremonies could take place at the pub, at home, on the beach - pretty much anywhere provided the location has been approved by a registered officiant.

Some ceremonies could be deemed ‘gimmicks’ that risk trivialising the legal act of marriage and would not be allowed under a so-called ‘dignity framework’.

Activities ‘such as skydiving, white-water rafting, rollercoasters or other amusement rides’ would ‘fall short of the standard,’ the government says.

What lovely grounds to reflect in all around Worthing Crematorium. After a loving celebration of life on Friday, I took a little walk in the sunshine looking at the beautiful wild flowers and watching out for any 🦌 that are sometimes spotted there. 🥚

A (not so) guilty pleasure of mine is BBC EastEnders and last night’s episode was a real emotional ride, with the death of Nigel.

The character (played fantastically well by Paul Bradley) has been living with dementia and the storyline highlighted the effect this can have on everyone. His final scenes showed the difficult, conflicting feelings his wife had of not wanting to say goodbye but at the same time not wanting her loved one to be in pain anymore - something similar to what I went through with my Mum.

The episode also showed how different people interact with death, those who are dying and grief - from young (who can understand more than their years) to more senior - and that all reactions are valid.

It was impressive acting all round, even down to how people’s breathing changes as their body relaxes, that will be really useful for people to see, so they can enter this stage with their loved ones, informed.

And all on a primetime TV show. Bravo.
