Representation matters 🖤🤎

As a white family, we’re really conscious that we want our boys to grow up seeing a world on their screens that actually looks like the world around them.

We don’t want white characters to always be the default, with diversity occasionally added in. We want them to see children, families, heroes, scientists, teachers and silly, funny characters with different skin tones, hair, cultures and backgrounds — just existing, having adventures and being brilliant.

And there’s still such a shortage of positive children’s characters with more melanin, particularly as the main character rather than the sidekick.

Some of our favourites at the moment are Yakka Dee, Ada Twist Scientist, Ms Rachel, and JoJo & Gran Gran. We especially love that JoJo & Gran Gran centres a Black British family and celebrates their everyday family life and Saint Lucian heritage.

If the thought of an overcrowded, overstimulating baby class gives you the ick… or fills you with absolute dread 😅 this might just be for you.

In just a few weeks we’re launching Calm Club & Mini Mighties Sensory at The Dock Hub, Hove 🩷🩵

We’re deliberately keeping things SMALL — capped at just 8 families per session — so there’s space to move, breathe, play and actually enjoy being there. No packed rooms. No pressure. No expectation to join in with everything.

🌸 Calm Club — baby massage, gentle mama movement & sensory play
🌈 Mini Mighties Sensory — themed sensory play for curious little explorers

And afterwards? Drinks, biscuits & sling advice will be available from Lauréne | MotherRucker | Brighton & Hove | Sling Library with time to chat, connect and not feel like you’re being hurried out the door. ☕🍪

👋 MEET ALANA! 💗

With our classes officially starting in Hove very soon, we thought it was probably time to properly introduce the faces behind The Mighty Mamahood!

I’m Alana — one half of The Mighty Mamahood, mum of two, autistic, ADHD, SEN parent and a qualified primary school teacher.

I’ve also got training and qualifications in SEND, child mental health, trauma-aware practice and babywearing — but just as importantly, I know first-hand what it’s like to parent a child who doesn’t always fit into the spaces that are already out there.

That’s a huge part of why we created The Mighty Mamahood. 💗

I’ll be bringing my teacher brain and love of all things sensory to our Mini Mighties, Calm Club and Mighty SEN Explorers sessions in Hove as well as The Mighty Little Spa — creating spaces where babies and children can explore, play and be completely themselves (and where parents can too!).

No pressure to join in. No expectations of sitting nicely. No judgement if things go sideways. Just welcoming, inclusive spaces for real families. 🌈

Our very first Mighty SEN Explorers session is THIS SATURDAY! ❤️

We’re kicking things off with Raindrops & Rainbows — an hour of colourful, splashy, messy sensory fun designed for children with additional needs.

Think water play, rainbow sensory trays, pouring, scooping, squishing, exploring and plenty of opportunities to get stuck in! 🌈💦

There’s no right way to join in — explore everything, find one favourite activity and stay there, take breaks, move around… it’s their session, their way. ❤️

❤️ WE CREATED THE SESSION WE WISH EXISTED FOR OUR SON.

We’re parents to an incredible 9-year-old who is non-speaking and has a severe learning disability.

And finding weekend activities that actually work for children like him? It doesn’t exist.

Activities where nobody cares if you can’t sit still.
Where vocalising is welcome.
Where stimming is welcome.
Where you can explore something for 30 seconds or obsess over it for the entire session. 😂
Where nobody expects you to play, communicate or participate in a certain way.

So… we’ve created it ourselves starting this Saturday❤️

✨ MIGHTY SEN EXPLORERS ✨

Big, joyful, themed sensory sessions created specifically with children with additional needs in mind.

Their pace. Their way. No judgement.

And because we know weekends can be particularly lacking in accessible SEN activities, these sessions are happening on Saturdays. 🙌

We’re ridiculously excited to finally get this going — but we need your help to reach the families who need it.
