Are you someone who just keeps pushing through?

I know I've been guilty of this myself many times.

We tell ourselves, "I'll be okay once this week is over."
"Things will settle down soon."
"Other people need me more right now."

So we keep going.

We put everyone else's needs first. We ignore the tension in our shoulders, the knot in our stomach, the tears that sit just beneath the surface, the exhaustion that never seems to shift.

Until one day we realise we're not really coping anymore – we're surviving. That tipping point can be a fine line.

The thing is, you don't need to wait until you're at breaking point to deserve support.

In fact, the earlier we begin listening to what our mind and body are trying to tell us, the easier it is to make gentle changes that help us feel more regulated, connected and like ourselves again.

Seeking support isn't a sign that you've failed.

It's a sign that you're beginning to notice your own needs and recognise that they matter too.

As a trauma-informed therapeutic coach, I work alongside parents and caring professionals who are carrying a lot. Together we explore what's happening beneath the overwhelm, helping you better understand your nervous system, and reconnect with yourself in a compassionate, attuned way.

If you've been thinking, "I can't keep doing this on my own," perhaps this is your reminder that you don't have to.

I have a small number of coaching spaces becoming available over the summer. If you'd like to explore whether therapeutic coaching feels like the right next step, I'd love to have a conversation with you.

People often ask what makes therapeutic coaching different.

My work is rooted in:

• Nervous system understanding
• Trauma-informed practice
• Deep attunement
• Compassion without judgement

I believe behaviour makes sense when we understand the story beneath it.

Whether you're a parent, professional or carer, you deserve support that recognises both your strengths and your struggles.

If you're in a parent/carer in the Somerset area this may be of interest to you. Can highly recommend anything run by NeuroConnect.

We are proud to be delivering activities for Happy Healthy Holidays Somerset over the Summer Holidays! ☀️😎

BOOKINGS ARE NOW OPEN 🎉

We are offering an inclusive space for young people focused on their neurodivergent wellbeing, offering opportunities to be with neurodivergent group leaders using arts, crafts and connection time together.

We understand how school as an environment can present challenges for young people and what we need in the school holidays is to reset.

We understand when anxiety is high and how neurodivergent burnout presents. We hope to provide a space for young people and their parents or carers who may need support for their wellbeing.

The people I support often tell me they want:

✨ More patience
✨ More capacity
✨ Better (healthier) boundaries
✨ Less guilt
✨ More confidence in themselves

Not because they want to become someone different.

Because they want to feel more like themselves again.

Sometimes the biggest transformation isn't adding something new.

It's reconnecting with what has been buried beneath stress and survival.

Imagine your nervous system as an internal alarm system.

When it senses danger, pressure, uncertainty or overwhelm, it works hard to protect you.

The challenge is that sometimes the alarm keeps ringing long after the threat has passed.

Therapeutic coaching helps you:
✓ Understand your patterns
✓ Recognise your triggers
✓ Build greater regulation
✓ Respond to yourself with more compassion

Change doesn't come from fighting yourself.

It comes from understanding yourself.

This resonated hugely with me. I'm very lucky to be part of a choir where the mix of people and the conditions that have been created feel just right, and it is truly wonderful. Our choir leader The Creative Choir Leader has a gift for creating a space where people feel welcomed, valued, and able to grow, both individually and as a group.

The singing itself is incredibly regulating, for many, many reasons (I feel another post coming on...). But I've come to realise that the real magic begins before we sing a single note. The foundations of safety, connection, trust, and belonging are what make it possible for the music to have such a powerful impact.

We often talk about the benefits of singing, but the real question is: what makes singing work?

Yes, research shows singing can reduce stress, boost mood, and support connection, but these outcomes don’t happen automatically. They depend on the conditions we create.

If we move beyond the simple act itself, we find that the overall experience is shaped by:
• The environment (does it feel safe and inclusive?)
• The people (is there trust and shared connection?)
• The approach (is there choice, not pressure?)

Even the science points to this: Singing can increase bonding and reduce anxiety — but it’s the shared, relational experience that unlocks that potential.

When the conditions are right, singing can help people feel grounded, present, and connected.
When they’re not, it can feel exposing — or simply not land at all.

One of the biggest myths we carry is:

"If I were stronger, I'd cope better."

When we're stressed for prolonged periods, our nervous system adapts to survive.

We may become:

Hypervigilant
Easily triggered
Exhausted but unable to rest
Disconnected from our own needs

This isn't a character flaw.

It's information.

And when we understand what our nervous system is communicating, we can begin responding differently.

Question: Which of these shows up most often for you?

You don't have to be having a breakdown to be struggling.

Sometimes overwhelm looks like:

• Snapping at the people you love most
• Feeling constantly "on"
• Struggling to switch off, even when you're exhausted
• Overthinking conversations afterwards
• Feeling guilty no matter what you do
• Knowing what would help but never finding the capacity to do it

Many of the parents and professionals I work with have spent months or years pushing through before realising their nervous system has been carrying too much for too long.

If this sounds familiar, you're not alone.
