Working within a team of photographers, videographers and designers, you will create high quality visual content that supports patient care, education, communication and service improvement.

Skin cancer care involves many teams working behind the scenes, including clinical photographers who play an important role in clinical imaging.

With a continued focus on skin cancer awareness, it is a good opportunity to highlight the contribution clinical photography makes to dermatology services.

Our clinical photographers at University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust works closely with Dermatology to capture high quality images that support diagnosis, monitor skin changes and track treatment progress. Clear and consistent photographs can make a real difference to patient care.

We are pleased to introduce Amy, one of our Clinical Photographers, who contributes to this work every day.

Amy brings both precision and compassion to her role, helping patients feel at ease while capturing images that support clinical decision making. Here is what Amy says about her role:

“I enjoy the variety and precision involved in dermatology photography, as well as contributing to a speciality where high-quality imaging has a direct impact on patient care.”

While many people know us for dermatology photography, we also support a wide range of services across the Trust, including areas such as paediatric burns, dental, plastics and tissue viability.

Mental Health Awareness Week (11 - 17 May) is a good reminder to check in on how we are feeling and to talk more openly about stress and pressure.

These photos were taken by our creative healthcare photography team during a past project with the NHS Race & Health Observatory.

They show moments of stress through natural expressions and gestures. These are feelings many people have but may not always talk about.

Mental health matters. Taking a moment to pause, talk, and look out for each other can make a real difference.

Photography can help share these stories in a simple and honest way, helping people feel seen and understood.

The What Matters at the End photography exhibition, supported by Bristol & Weston Hospitals Charity , opened last week at the Bristol Heart Institute (BHI) Atrium at University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust .

The opening brought colleagues and visitors together to reflect on the stories behind the images, with a beautiful harp performance by Tamsin Elliott.

We encourage everyone to visit the exhibition, take a moment to pause, and spend time with these powerful stories.

Medical Illustration was pleased to support this project by capturing moments of care, dignity and personal support at the end of life.

To mark Dying Matters Awareness Week (4 – 10 May), University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust is organising the What Matters at the End photography exhibition in the Bristol Heart Institute (BHI) Atrium, with a later display at Weston General Hospital.

Medical Illustration is pleased to be part of this project, providing photography that reflects the compassionate, individualised care patients receive at the end of life.

The exhibition is supported by Bristol & Weston Hospitals Charity.

The opening will feature remarks from Sarah Dodds, Trust Director of Nursing, and Katie Walker, Chief Executive Officer of Bristol & Weston Hospitals Charity, along with harp music from Tamsin Elliott.

All are welcome to visit the exhibition, take time to reflect, and engage with the stories behind the images.

🎉​ Happy 25th birthday to the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children (BRHC) building!

BRHC at the University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust provides a local service for Bristol children and a referral service for specialist care for families across the South West and nationally.

To celebrate the BRHC opening in 2001, artist Andrew Smith created the iconic Lollipop Be‑Bop, an 18‑metre‑high interactive sculpture of entwining colourful hoops, shown in the photographs here.

Medical Illustration provides clinical photographs to support patient care throughout BRHC, including for the Paediatric Burns Department, Trauma and Orthopaedics, Plastics, Clinical Genetics and Dermatology.

The photos were taken by our photographer and capture the iconic Lollipop Be‑Bop lit up at night.

For World Art Day, we would like to introduce Che, our Medical Artist 🤩!

Che creates eye-catching medical illustrations that help explain complex conditions, treatments and procedures in a clear and patient friendly way.

As part of the Medical Illustration team at University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust , he produces illustrations, animations, and motion graphics to support learning and communication across the Trust, working with both clinical and creative teams.

His skill, creativity, and attention to detail ensure information is clear, accurate, and always focused on patients' needs.

We truly value Che and the difference his work makes to our department and patient care.

Here’s what Che says about his role:

“A key part of my job is to convey complex scientific concepts to patients in a clear and accessible way to ensure people have the best possible understanding of their bodies, the issues they may be at risk of and how best to improve their personal healthcare. I love creating fun and characterful work to help people feel more informed and well equipped to live happily and healthily.”
