Andrea Newman Yoga and Rolfing

Andrea Newman Yoga and Rolfing Yoga and Rolfing with Andrea Newman - discover improved health and ease in body and mind Rolfing with Andrea Newman in Bristol BS4. All welcome.

Yoga class on Zoom, Wednesdays 6-7pm. Rolfing is a process of re-educating the body so that it operates more efficiently within the field of gravity. When we get out of balance, we have to work hard to stay upright. This is tiring and can lead to pain. This situation can come about as a result of injury or illness, or simply through habitual slouching or hours at a desk. When the body is aligned and in balance, then gravity becomes supportive. This is usually experienced as a feeling of uprightness, increased energy and vitality, ease and strength. For more information see www.yogaandrolfing.co.uk

Yoga teachers continually have to make decisions in class about when and how to intervene, and when to leave alone.

Anatomy-informed guidance keeps students safe. It also leaves them feeling well supported in their practice, whatever their body type, while optimising the health benefits that yoga can bring.

THE ART OF OBSERVATION
At this online workshop I'm leading on Saturday 27th June 10am (replay available), yoga teachers will be learning sound holistic anatomy-based strategies to support individual students better within a class. We'll be taking a practical grounded approach with professional yoga teachers and real yoga students in mind.

All qualified yoga teachers and student yoga teachers are welcome.

I'm really looking forward to this applied anatomy workshop THE ART OF OBSERVATION for yoga teachers, online next Saturday.

I will share some insights from Rolfing that explain why we see completely different expressions of the same pose, with same instructions, in a group yoga class.

For yoga teachers, anatomical knowledge can help us see beyond the shape of a pose. Understanding why one student is comfortable while another struggles, helps us to respond more skilfully and to guide students safely while deepening their practice.

THE ART OF OBSERVATION online workshop for yoga teachers, with me, Andrea Newman, will help you look at bodies differently, and bring more confidence and clarity to your teaching in mixed-ability classes.

Yoga teachers - when do you decide a student needs adjusting, and when do you leave them alone?

I'm looking forward to teaching an online workshop for yoga teachers on interpreting anatomy in real-life teaching situations on 27th June.

We'll be exploring the above question, and other ways to apply anatomical knowledge to real life teaching.

Yoga teachers will recognise this -

We notice a lot when we look at our students.

We notice when students move differently into the same pose.

We notice when someone looks uncomfortable.

We notice when a cue seems to work for one student but not another.

Yet the challenge in our work is often not what we notice, but how we interpret what we're seeing.

The body doesn't work as isolated parts, and humans are wonderfully complex. What initially appears to be the problem is not always the whole story.

This is exactly what we'll be covering in The Art of Observation – a professional workshop for yoga teachers on 27 June – exploring how applying our anatomy knowledge can help us interpret what we're seeing more effectively, so that we can better understand and support the people in front of us.

It's an area that has fascinated me throughout my years of teaching, and that still continues to reveal new layers of understanding.
